I am a Sumerologist in training and I thought that this book might be an interesting addition although I had never heard of the author. I got the book and was immediately disappointed in it, on every level. All of the graphics are noticably pixilated and definitely came from either a clip art, and a pretty cheap clip art program, and or the internet and thus the image quality was terrible. For an author who claims to be a teacher at a univeristy his writing is not up to standard for the field or for even a book. I write on average around 100 pages for Sumerian studies alone in any given four month period, I know that without a doubt the grammar and the sentence structure would not pass any class, it would be sent back for re-writes. The author as well does not go into any detail that is truly revealing and indeed, I felt that I could have gotten into more detail. I was also curious as to why he covered issues that were not entirely or anywhere near related to the subject of writing, only really the introduction and the first chapter cover this and then the rest is "cultural commentary". I would save my money and read something much better, something from an academic press such as Princeton, Yale, or Chicago University Presses. One can easily google search the publisher and find out that it is a self-publication company which means no accountability for the text, no peer review, and no editor to supervise content and flow. Skip it and save yourself a headache.
