   Super DLTtape I は、SDLT 220 ドライブはもちろん、SDLT 320 ドライブにも対応し、最大320GB＊1(2倍圧縮時)の大容量と毎秒32MB＊1(2倍圧縮時)の高転送レートを実現した。

ピボッティングオプティカルサーボによる高精度トラッキング
   Super DLTtape I の最大の特長は、テープメディア裏面を利用するオプティカルサーボトラッキング。オプティカルサーボは一体化したテープヘッドとオプティカルヘッド構造からなり、細かなテープ振動に追随してピボッティング(首振り)をおこなうことができるため高精度のトラッキングが可能。また、テープ裏面にはオプティカルサーボに最適化したバックコート層をもうけるとともに磁気記録層にはATOMM技術を採用、さらに高精度スリッティング技術によりトラッキングに最適な寸度性能を実現した。

アドバンスドテープカートリッジとメタルバックリング機構を採用し高耐久性を実現
   テープカートリッジ内側には、テープをガードする環状の壁と放射状のリブを追加したアドバンスド構造を採用。これによりカートリッジ自体の弾性と強度を高め衝撃をカートリッジ全体に分散することにより損傷を最小限に抑えることができる。また、テープカートリッジをロードする際に負荷のかかるバックリング部分にはソリッドメタルピンを使用したメタルバックリング機構を採用し、高い耐久性と安定性を実現している。
