4.0 out of 5 stars 『シェード』：そこにひもとかれている主人公の決意に深く胸を打たれた, 2007/1/28
ファンタジーのようなミステリーのような短編が４本収められていました。本の装丁のように明るい世界観を映し出す文体が心地よい本でした。
読み始めはミステリー色が強くエンターテイメントとわりきりつつ楽しく読み進めた。しかし、読後感は全く異なるものだった。もう一度読み返す必要あり。と、
特に(4)『シェード』については、そこにひもとかれている主人公の決意に深く胸を打たれたのでした。
次は、スローリーティングで、読み返すこととしよう。

■
(1) Fine Days：高校でのお話。主人公の僕と、同じ中学出身で女子をしめている安井、そして、口数が少なく絵を描く神部は校舎の屋上で、思い思いに時を過ごす。１学年下に転校してきた髪の毛の綺麗な女の子と彼らをめぐるお話。

(2) イエスタデイズ：余命宣告された父の35年前に別れた恋人を、末っ子の主人公が探しに行く話。

(3) 眠りのための暖かな場所：幼少の頃妹を亡くしたという過去に縛られる大学院生の女の子が主人公。大学のゼミの後輩を通じて自分を振り返る話。

(4) シェード：29歳の彼女を持つ26歳の主人公が、クリスマスプレゼントを骨董屋に買いに行く。骨董屋の窓越しにいつも眺めていたランプシェードを買い求めようとするが、それは既に売られていた。ランプシェードにまつわる物語は、彼の心にある決意を呼び起こす。

４編の短編からなるのですが、いい意味で固定されたスタイルを持たず、実験してるなぁ、と好感が持てます。ただ、文体どおりに受け取ると荒唐無稽に感じてしまうのも確か。読み手を呑み込んでしまうだけの説得力は希薄です。

本多さんの作品は、これまで「MISSING」と
「ALONE TOGETHER」を読んでいますが、後者の作品が
おぼろげな記憶ではありますがあまり好みの作品では
なかったため、彼の作品を読むのをやめてました。
最近になって本屋で本作を見つけて、活字を読みたい
気分だったので何となく手にとって読み始めてみたら
あっという間にその独特の世界に入り込んでました。

4つのストーリーのどれも奇妙で哀しくて、でもどこか
救いのある物語。読後感は不思議な余韻に包まれます。
中でも3つ目の「眠りのための暖かな場所」はとても良かったです。
感動！というわけではないのですが（むしろ逆？）、
読後感は4つの中で一番鮮烈な印象を残しました。

どのお話も、「その後はどうなったの？」と、続きが
気になる終わり方ではあるけれど、上手くまとまっているので
特にこれといった不満もありません。

普通のラブストーリーに飽きた方にぜひ読んでほしい作品です。
