Excellent reviews of critical care topics

This is probably one of the best critical care medicine books published in recent years. It is a great summary of the latest literature on critical care medicine. One of the attractive features of this book is that each topic is based a specific clinical question. Each question is well formulated and represents bedside questions often asked by practicing intensivist during his/her daily ward rounds; hence these questions are highly relevant and have immediate clinical importance. Each chapter addresses this specific question by critically reviewing the available literature and summarizing the evidence. The summary is quite well written and easy to follow. Importantly, it is not excessively long (most are 2-3 pages), so you can get a quick overview of the latest evidence in less than 30 minutes. The whole book covers a large number of such questions and capture most topics in the critical care medicine. Most of the information in this book cannot be found in major critical care textbooks, which tend to be outdated and not in keeping with the current literature. If you are studying for board exam, use this book as an introduction text because it gives you the main "juice" of the topic straight away. You can then fill in the "gaps" by reading up more details on some of those big volume critical care textbooks. For practising clinicians, this book gives you almost 100 "Journal Club" critiques in one book. That is pretty good value for money!

This book is one of the best I have ever read, it goes throught the evidence (until 2010, now things are changed again, for example a new study has shown that beta 2 agonists i.v. do not improve outcome in ARDS and so on..), but as far as getting a good, detailed, evidence based review of all that one must know as an intensivist this book is fantastic!
