内容説明

Eat, or be eaten. To Phil Porter, that sums up the golden rule of corporate America. With tongue firmly in cheek and an eye on his back, this veteran corporate shark reveals just how those master corporate politicians operate--and how to beat them at their cutthroat game. Porter outlines 81 survival skills and battle tactics to protect everyone who isn't a tyrant CEO--and arm anyone who aspires to be one. Among the battle tactics are the art of the personal attack, leveraging your worth by threatening to quit, and shifting focus and blame to others for your screw-ups. Eye opening, hilarious, and chilling, EAT--OR BE EATEN! has the lowdown on what it takes to survive--and prosper--in even the most fiercely competitive corporate jungle. There is nothing subtle about the way Porter advises that the game be played-you play ruthlessly and play to win!

It's a jungle out there. And in Eat or Be Eaten, 30-year corporate veteran Phil Porter reveals what he claims are the secrets to clawing your way up the workplace food chain: using stealth tactics long employed by master corporate politicians to successfully negotiate between their workers and their bosses. Some will find Porter's view of the contemporary executive suite as cutthroat-safari-in-the-Kalahari a bit too cynical; others will enjoy the way he plants his tongue firmly in his cheek. But few will deny the underlying truth in the hundred or so strategies he prescribes for "a fighting chance to survive." Porter frames his suggestions with headings like Work Overtime ("bosses eat this up," he begins), Agree and Do What You Want ("by the time they find out ... you've gained at least another month or two"), and Intimidation ("a very effective tool ... if it is serious and guaranteed to be implemented"). By categorizing and fleshing them out, he offers a not-so-pretty version of corporate America while providing realistic advice for those who have to Tap Dance ("the art and practice of defending yourself to a hostile audience") or deal with someone who must. --Howard Rothman

The truth hurts 2000/6/22

This is one of those books you read and wonder, "People aren't really that sneaky and conniving... are they?" If you work in the corporate world and probably even if you don't, the answer is yes. Mr. Porter warns you how to recognize these people and their tactics, but more importantly, he helps you counter their moves without turning into one of them yourself.

Anyone on the corporate ladder should read "eat or be eaten" 2000/6/11
By Georgiann Baldino - (Amazon.com)
形式:ハードカバー
I recommend "eat or be eaten" to complete any business education. I wish I'd read this book ten years ago; it wouldn't saved a lot of time and frustration. Phil Porter gives us a perspective that you won't hear in any corporate or college training program. Everyone can identify with roads to failure he outlines in the book, and use his advice to turn them into success.

The bible of ' Corporate Politics ' 2002/2/10
By カスタマー - (Amazon.com)
形式:ハードカバー
If you are like me and feel that you are an honest, diligent, hard working, employee but get frustrated with the office politics, then this is the book for you.
Porter explains with great examples of how you (the above description) will be tossed around like garden salad if you don't understand the fundamentals of the office war.
Believe me, it is a war out there.
I only wish that I had read this book years ago.
Porter goes into details of how you can recognise what the MCP (Master Corporate Politician) is about and how he/she is trying to destroy you. Tips and techniques and real life examples
are all contained in the book to the benefit of the reader.
Always remember the number #1 golden rule. `It's not what you know, it's who you know' and Porter explains in depth ALL of the golden rules.
If you are stuck in an office all day long. Then please do yourself a favour and purchase this book. It will save you a
LOT of heartache and wondering of the things like ` What did I do wrong'
` Why don't they take any notice of me `, ` What do I have to do to get the them to look at me'?

Then this book is a must for the office worker, YOU!
