収録曲目は、公式ウェブサイトで実施されたファン投票で選ばれたすでに発表済みの人気曲ばかりです。
2007年最新リマスタリングに関しては、2003年、2004年のリマスタリングに比べて音質が若干よくなっていると思いますが、初期の音源で音が揺れるところはいくつか今回もそのままでした。
さて、日本盤に関して言いたいことがあります。帯はもちろん、日本盤ブックレットも輸入盤に外付けされています。大きささえ合えば、ボックス内には格納できるスペースがあるのに、外付けの日本盤ブックレットや帯が大きすぎて入りません。日本盤ブックレットは、輸入盤ブックレットと同じ大きさにしてくれればよかったのに。ブックレットにしろ、帯にしろ、ボックス、ケースに巻きつけた時には丈が短く不恰好に見えても、収納場所を考えると、もう一回りか二回りか小さくしてくれれば、輸入盤そのままのケース、ボックスに収納できる。なのに、そうしてくれなかったので、結局ボックスに輪ゴムでブックレットと帯を留めるしかありません。もっと使う人の身になって製作してほしいです。

遂にディラン漬けの日々が始まった。www.dylan07.jp等で情報を集めている人はご存知だろうが、この初回限定盤の特徴は、通常盤と同じく初期から昨年までの17曲を年代順に並べ、最後を「いつまでも若く」でしめる計18曲のベスト盤（何れも初出スタジオ録音。２００７新規リマスター音源）の他に、マーク・ロンソンのリミックスした「我が道を行く」とその原曲、「入り江にそって」の原曲の２倍超の長さのロック色濃厚なライヴの計３曲収録のディスクがついていること。マーク・ロンソンのリミックスの日本盤はこのような形で世に出たのである。

ベスト盤だが、彼の４５年を１枚に収めるのは無茶。しかし、ディランをこれから聴き始める人には良き第一歩になるだろう。解説もディラン史を簡潔にまとめている。選曲で不満なのは「ハリケーン」の次に「メイク・ユー・フィール・マイ・ラヴ」に飛ぶこと。ディランの８０年代の名曲は３枚組Ｄｙｌａｎやブートレッグ・シリーズ第３集等でということか。１８曲の中では「いつまでも若く」に改めて感激し、ディラン、そして自分にいつまでも若くいられるようにと念じずにはおれなかった。

ボーナス・ディスクだが、リミックス版はwww.dylan07.comでプロモビデオを視聴できるので、参考にするとよい。穏当なアレンジで、私は寧ろ原曲の現役感に驚嘆した。なお、私の入手したリミックス版の輸入盤では「入り江にそって」のライヴも収録されているから、同曲を日本だけのボーナスというのは大げさでは？　それに、解説によると、同曲のライヴを収めたＣＤが２００５年に「ライヴ・フロム・ボナルー２００４」として発売されている。

以上の情報が参考になればと思うが、コレクターは初回限定盤を買ってしまいますね。最後に、ジャケットはディランの写真ではなく、例の赤地にＤＹＬＡＮの黒文字である。

遂にディスク３枚、全５１曲を２回聴き通した。今はマラソンを完走した時のような充実感に包まれている。ディランの４５年の全活動時期（活発でない時期もあったが）から万遍なくオリジナル・スタジオ録音を年代順に集めた作品である点で「グレイテスト・ヒット」等過去のベスト盤と一線を画し、未発表曲がない点で過去の「バイオグラフ」等のＣＤ３枚組作品とも一線を画す、直球のような作品である。５１曲には同時発売「ディラン・ザ・ベスト」のベスト盤ディスク収録の１８曲も含まれ、「いつまでも若く」を最後に持ってくるようなことはしていない。ディランのオール・タイム・ベストなら３枚組になるのも納得であり、それでも足りないぐらいだが（例えば「ローランドの悲しい目の乙女」のような大曲でなくても「ラヴ・マイナス・ゼロ／ノー・リミット」や「イズ・ユア・ラヴ・イン・ヴェイン」は収録してもよかったのでは？）、全体として妥当な選曲であると思う。ディランのベストということになると、どうしても７０年代までの作品に注目しがちだが、８０〜９０年代の作品にも配慮しており、私は改めてディスク３の２、４曲目に感激した。特に１１分の大曲「ブラウンズヴィル・ガール」は最高ですね。また、「ザ・ベスト・オブ・ボブ・ディランvol.2」を持っていない人には「ディグニティ」のご機嫌の「オー・マーシー」アウトテイクは良い贈り物になるだろう。最初はまたベスト盤かと思っていたが、今はディランという偉大な先達・伴走者がいることの喜びを実感させてくれたこの２１世紀の作品に感謝している。

ところで、ディランはそのキャリアの中でＤＹＬＡＮというタイトルの作品を２つ持つことになったが、彼の意識の中では７３年の作品は完全に抹消されたということだろうか。あれも独特の魅力ある作品だけに、そのことが気になる。
