The theme of this pigeon book will be a familiar tale to anyone with kids. It is time for the bedtime battle. Pigeon lays it on thick to try and stay up later than he should. 'C'mon! What's five mInutes in the grand scheme of things!?......My bunny wants to stay up too. You can't say no to a bunny, can you?' Anyway, yawning gets the better of him, and he ends up falling asleep on the floor.(Sound familiar!?)
I like how the pigeon books are stylised by way of having the characters in the book talk directly to the reader. In this way they make for great read alouds for gaggles of children. It is a funny book, so you are bound to get a lot of kids really getting into telling pigeon that he cannot stay up.
I would buy it for a classroom library where it will probably get a lot of use as a read aloud and personal reading, but not my personal collection. It reminds me in some ways of Sunday paper comic strips I used read as a kid. I guess for that reason, I am reluctant to pay more than I would a newspaper!
