In his book, Transcending CSS: The Fine Art Of Web Design (New Riders), Andy set the stage for the development of progressive Web site design using XHTML, CSS and other Web-standards technologies. Designing pages that are beautiful for everyone

The accessibility guidance on this DVD is probably no more than a reasonably-experienced person ought to already know. Where it shines is in the basic principle that web pages should be beautiful and useful both when displayed normally and when filtered through an assistive technology. Clark is best when telling you what NOT to do (because a screen reader can already do it) and how to incorporate semantic information while making the page more beautiful for everyone.
That said, you will also learn more about accessibility. Do you know how to mark up a complicated table with multiple nested levels of headings? Or how to show an image and its description beautifully for normal browsers, screen readers, AND browsers with CSS turned on but images turned off? Well, you'll learn here.
I especially appreciate the author's clear passion for accessibility and his rousing statement that the test of professionalism in a web designer is that they make the experience as good as possible for all users. I feel inspired to go out and build a beautiful, accessible web.

Great Way to Learn Web Accessiblity

Andy Clark is a brit ([...]) who is one of the top web designers and developers out there. He has many years of experience and is very well respected in the web community. He travels to many web conferences giving talks on web accessiblity and the future of web design.
He already has a book about web and CSS design: Transcending CSS: The Fine Art of Web Design, which is a wonderful book and I highly recommend.
This new book is in a DVD format and is a really great way to easily learn 'visually' by watching Andy explain lots of topics on web accessiblity in how he modifies a fictitious social web networking site.
He shows you techniques on how to take existing website(s) on adding acessibilty features for visitors for the visually or hearing impaired. Watching the videos makes it alot easier than reading a book in my opinion because you can quickly find what you are looking for as well as 'watch and learn' as Andy does it.
Lots of information is covered and more information can be found at the W3C site ([...]).
I used his videos in updating my own client's websites to quickly improve accessbility and got lots of great reviews from exisiting visitors.
A great buy if you want to learn any and all aspects of web accessiblity and what you can do to your exisiting site.

Andy has a way of teaching that is interesting and inspiring, no matter what the topic. His approach is to move forward and use all current coding techniques to achieve excellence, rather than waiting for every browser to catch up. This is how one gets to and remains on the cutting edge. The book will not imbue the reader with talent, but will be a great asset to talented people.
