内容説明

The growth, scale, and prominence of video applications over the years have placed emphasis on the most scalable and efficient way to deliver multi-play content (voice, video and data) to the end user. Multicast is the most effective and efficient carrier of video applications from a network standpoint. Financial organizations deploy large-scale multicast infrastructures to enable trading and e-commerce. The introduction of 4G and beyond makes this technology even more indispensible since mobile operators need an efficient mechanism to deliver repetitive content to many a handset, and multicast is the answer. This is the first book to distill information on this topic from disparate sources. It is written by one of the early implementers, and is the go-to reference for deploying the Next Generation model. This book proves a real benefit to networking professionals from service providers, enterprises, the vendor community, and anyone else who wants to understand this fast emerging and popular scheme of deployment from a vendor-neutral standpoint.

  • Offers contextualized case studies for illustrating deployment of the Next Generation Multicast technology
  • Provides the background necessary to understand current generation multi-play applications and their service requirements
  • Includes practical tips on various migration options available for moving to the Next Generation framework from the legacy

Worse experience ever using Kindle PC 2012/3/12

Deploying Next Generation Multicast-enabled Applications: Label Switched Multicast for MPLS VPNs, VPLS, and Wholesale Ethernet

This book is the best book about Multicast with we have today, but, using in Kindle PC this is the worse experience with i have using e-books.

I don't know why, the publisher use a lot of images to show to us some commands in JUNOS / IOS, and this image is so huge and we can't see what they writing inside that.

Please, buy the book but run away from Kindle PC.
possible VPN improvements 2011/9/30
By W Boudville - (Amazon.com)
形式:ペーパーバック|Amazon Vine™ レビュー (詳しくはこちら)
The chapters 2 to 5 focus on Virtual Private Networks [VPNs] and on the prospects for improved performances. There are several directions or dimensions [in some generalised sense] that this could happen. One idea is to use multicasting, which is the central thread of the book.

For VPN, multicasting could take several forms. But the book focuses on Draft-Rosen as one key implementation. This is contrasted to the current day unicast VPN. If you have used a VPN, chances are good that it was a form of the latter. One thing the reader soon finds is that facile knowledge is assumed of underlying methods like BGP, and of how to deal with networks that have a mix of IPv4 and IPv6 traffic. While it would be [much] simpler to have only one type of traffic, finally IPv6 is becoming common and as a practical matter, you should assume that your network will see both. It will be years later till you can expect to meet only IPv6. So the current era may be one of maximum difficulty in terms of handling both.

Another aspect of the book is to show that there are several possible VPN topologies. Granted, for your specific network there might be only one realistic topology existing or possible for a VPN. But one value of the book is how it tries to encompass a variety.

A lot of the text is taken up with example diagnostic output from a router or switch or hub. The sheer verbiage can be daunting. Though if you are a network administrator, you had better get used to this, fast.

It should not be any surprise that Cisco is the most prominent network vendor mentioned in the book. But kudos to the authors for devoting an entire chapter to offerings from Alcatel Lucent, who have an intriguing take on this entire field of multicasting VPNs.

Multicasting 2011/9/23
By R. Yu - (Amazon.com)
形式:ペーパーバック|Amazon Vine™ レビュー (詳しくはこちら)
This book is about taking advantage of multicasting on the WAN network. Unicasting is one to one, and broadcasting is one to all, so many services and platforms may not be used to its utmost efficiency. IPTV (streaming internet TV), VPLS (virtual private LANs), MVPN (mobile virtual private networks), MSAN (telephone exchanges) are all highly compatible with multicasting over the BGP. The authors concentrate on the 3 largest networking vendors (Cisco, Juniper, and Lucent-Alcatel) and their OS (IOS, JUNOS, and TiMOS respectively), and provides great detail of actual router configs and outputs, which is much desired for beginners.
