CS&N名義の3枚目のオリジナルアルバムの最新リマスター。
Rhino編集によるHDCD仕様。確かに前回(1994年)のリマスター盤よりさらに音圧が若干増しているが、前回ですでに満足できる水準だったので、HDCDに無縁な環境で最大の目玉は、4曲のボーナストラックだ。
このアルバムは、1980〜82年行われたいくつかのセッションから構成されている。当時ドラッグで脱落状態だったCrosby抜きの2人で作成された物に、Crosbyのエッセンスを可能な限り加えてCS&N名義になっているが、4曲のうち3曲はStills & Nashで録音され、Daylight Againから外れた曲。
#12(Nash/Stills)は、現在は廃盤の83年発表の3人名義唯一のライブアルバムAlliesに含まれていた2曲のスタジオ録音のうちの1曲として陽の目を見た曲。音源は同一だが、今回新たにオリジナル24トラックマスターからミックスされている。そして、Alliesには入ってないJoe Lalaのコンガがミックスされている。AlliesのCDが入手困難なこともあり、ファンにはうれしいボーナスのはず。さらに#13(Stills/Nash)と#14(Stills)も、どちらも没曲にするには惜しい佳曲だと思う。
#15(Judy Henske/Craig Doerge)は、#10としてアルバムに本人不在のままCrosby提供の形で仕上がることになる名曲のデモで、Crosbyの２重ボーカルと作者の1人Craig Doergeのピアノだけのシンプルかつ感動的なトラックだ。この曲をボーナスに加える価値をNashが訴えたらしい。
さほどCSNファンでなく、94年リマスター盤をすでにお持ちの人は今回はパスしても良いだろうが、熱狂的なファンには決して外せない一品だ。
また、インナースリーブの最終ページにLP発売時のバックカバーアートが再現され、ボーナスを含む全曲の歌詞が印刷されているのもうれしい。

1983年に彼らの本拠地ともいえるハリウッドで行われたコンサートライブ。CSNは一度90年代の初めにアコウスティックセットで来日したことがあるが、フルバンド編成でのライブはやっていないので、そのグルーブ感を味わえる貴重な映像といえる。アライズという同時期に録られたライブCDよりも収録されている曲も多く（おいしい曲は全部やってます！）、長年のファンにとっても新しいファンにとってもお得な一枚。日本でのライブこそ永らく無いが、アメリカでは今でもこんな感じのセットで、現役バリバリのコンサートツアーを頻繁に（この夏も）やっているらしい。20年前とはいえ、映像をみることで、CSNがライブが好きで、もっとも本領を発揮するバンドであることがわかる。コーラスの緻密さはそのままで、三者三様のステージパフォーマンスが楽しめるが、この時のクロスビーの不自然なほどの無表情さは（歌は問題なくうまいけど）、その後のドラッグや銃刀法違反などでの彼の逮捕のことを思うとちょっと痛々しい。その後ずいぶん時が流れ、クロスビーも肝移植を経験したり息子とバンドを組んだりして元気になったようだが、もうすぐリリースされるずいぶん久しぶりのC&Nの2枚組スタジオ新譜が、昔どおりなのか、変わっているのか、新たな興味が湧いてきた。たぶんいい意味で変わってないだろうけどね。

このアルバムは、主にスティルス＆ナッシュで作られた。その為、クロスビーの存在感が薄いのが難点である。しかし、それを補って余りある各曲のパワーはなかなかのもの。シングル・ヒットが３曲も飛び出し、当時はＭＴＶでも彼らの映像がよく流れていた。ほとんど参加してないクロスビーもリードボーカルを取った２曲は秀逸。
