David Gandy is both an icon and muse for Dolce&Gabbanathe Italian designers’ masculine ideal. Originally from suburban London and a self-professed car fanatic, he got into modeling by chance through a contest. Since then, he has taken the fashion world by storm, working with top photographers and stylists.

This photographic homage traces Gandy’s career from early photo shoots to the acclaimed advertising campaign for the Dolce&Gabbana fragrance Light Blue, which captured the world’s imagination and transformed him into a global icon of virility, sex appeal, and charm. The Light Blue campaign alone garnered over eleven million online hits, and his image has been featured in a fifty-foot poster towering over Times Square in New York.

This book includes photographs by Mario Testino, Steven Klein, Giampaolo Sgura, and Mariano Vivanco, among others.

著者について

David Gandy is a model of Dolce&Gabbana’s men’s line. He is also a leading fashion blogger for British Vogue online and is currently exploring a second career in acting.

Educated at Cambridge University, Peter Howarth began his career in the fashion industry working for Paul Smith and later Nicole Farhi before becoming style director for British GQ and later editor-in-chief of British Esquire. He has written for many publications, among them the New York Times’ T Magazine, the Guardian, the Financial Times, and Italy’s L’Uomo Vogue. In 2002, he started Show Media, a brand-consulting agency based in London.

Beautiful man, but a near prudish book 2011/10/17

In this day and age, with the abundance of books showing the male figure, I'm surprised, and frankly disappointed, that this book contains no full frontal nudity. Early in the book Gandy compares himself to the David by Michelangelo and then you see him standing in a similar pose, with his genitalia fully blacked out. It looks ridiculous. What's the hangup? I"m not asking for pornography, but at least an honest presentation. I would prefer a fig leaf to the black void in this particular photograph.

He's a beautiful man, I like the casual writing of the book but the prudish, puritan almost, nature of the photo selection is disappointing.

The runway shots are predictable and the Klein group shots are boring. The paparazzi shots are unnecessary, why in red?

I have never paid this much for a book, but I feel it was worth the investment. The book is HUGE and the images are BEAUTIFUL. If you are a fan of David Gandy, Mariano Vivanco or just appreciate the beauty of the male form, you will enjoy this book.

DAVID GANDY BY DOLCE & GABBANA my seem like a strange name for a monograph, a title suggesting that the fashion firm 'created' the most popular model in the world at this moment. But in essence the company IS responsible for the status of this iconic male model. According to the PR David Handy is British by birth, living outside London and a fanatic for cars who entered the modeling arena via contest and whoosh! - the rest is history.

Gandy is the epitome of the macho look - ruggedly handsome without being too pretty to the camera lens. He obviously works the gym routinely and maintains the amount of muscularity and tone without progressing to the bulging biceps and thighs look that are simply incompatible with fashion modeling. He is now the model of choice y all fashion photographers but continues to devote his major interests tot he company that launched his career with the premiere of the fragrance Light Blue.

Mario Testino, Steven Klein, Giampaolo Sgura, and Mariano Vivanco are just four of the photographers whose magic is focused on David Gandy in this hefty and impressive monograph and they have captures Gandy in full fashion styles ready for the walkway, casual shots of the model in street clothes, and many images without clothing (no frontal nudity here) that allow the reader to see the perfection of this man's anatomy. For some models this many images could become wearing, but David Gandy has style and charm and he obviously loves the camera: the results, a panorama of one man's exposure in and out of Dolce & Gabbana couture.

The essay is by Cambridge University educated Peter Howarth who writes with the same degree of flair that David Gandy shows the camera. He knows this field as he has been style director for British GQ and editor-in-chief of British Esquire. His publications include the New York Times' T Magazine, the Guardian, the Financial Times, and Italy's L'Uomo Vogue. In 2002, he started Show Media, a brand-consulting agency based in London.

But words are words and while they are well stated, the obvious star of this impressive book is David Gandy. He can only go up! Grady Harp, September 11
