Criminal Profiling: Principles and Practice provides a compendium of original scientific research on constructing a criminal profile for crimes that are not readily resolvable by conventional police investigative methods. 犯罪者プロファイリング研究業界で最近、がんがん論文を出しているKocsisのプロファイリングについての概説書。プロファイリングの定義から始まって、レイプ、性的殺人、放火についてのプロファイリング手法が概説されている。また、Kocsisお得意の、プロファイリングは役に立つのかについての議論に１章費やされている。方法論はいわゆるＦＢＩ方式でなく、多変量解析を使用した方式（日本では、リバプール方式といわれている方式）ものが中心であり、読解にはそれなりの専門知識（とくにＭＤＳなどについての基礎的な知識）を必要とするので、臨床心理学的、精神医学的な観点でプロファイリングを知りたい人にはそれほど面白い読み物ではないだろう。むろん、「豊富な事例」ものっていない。プロファイリングマニアのKocsisだけあって、なかなかよく調べてあり、専門家にとっても有用な一冊となっている。図も豊富でよい。
