元々サウンドはオンボード（Realtek HD Audio ALC889A）でしたが、ノイズがありました。
何もしていない状態でも「ｻｰ」、ブラウザをホイールでスクロールさせると「ｷｭｷｭｯ」、重い3Dゲームなどを起動させると「ｻﾞｰ」と、けっこうひどかったです。

そこで、ノイズを消せる安いサウンドカードを探してみることに。
割と評価の良かったこちらを購入して付けたところ、ノイズがほぼ完全になくなりました。（少なくとも私の耳では、ノイズは全く聞こえません。）
音質はオンボードと比べてほとんど変わっていないみたいですが、大変満足しています。

オンボードのRealtecを使用していましたがノイズが酷く、何もしていなくても「ピー」というやかんでお湯を沸かしているような音、
マウスホイールを動かすだけで「ﾋﾟｷﾞｬﾗｯ､ﾋﾟｷﾞｭﾗｷﾞｭﾗ」という音がしていました。また３Dゲームを起動するとノイズがいっそう酷くなり
「ﾋﾟｰ、ﾌﾟｰ、ﾋﾟﾙﾋﾟﾙﾋﾟﾙｷﾞｬｷﾞｬ」などと聴いてるだけで肩が凝るような状態でした。。
VoiceChatでも「やかん沸かしてんの？笑」と言われ、どうやらマイクにもノイズが乗っていたようです。
PCでの音質は特に求めていませんでしたので、ノイズさえ消えればいいとSound Blaster SB-5.1-VXを購入しました。

結論、この商品にして大正解でした。ノイズはばっちり消え、クリアなサウンドになりました。
また、Realtecのオーディオデバイスは再生と録音がごちゃ混ぜになっていたり、あるいは録音タブの音量が動かせず非常に使いにくかったのですが、SB-5.1-VXのオーディオマネージャはシンプルで使いやすいと思います。

サウンドカードは増設も簡単ですし値段も手頃ですから、少しでもノイズに悩まされている方には是非ともお勧めしたい商品です。

オンボードより良くなるかというと、それはそのマザーボード次第ですが、
音質にこだわらずに普通に音楽鑑賞とかDVD鑑賞をする場合、特に無問題。
しかもVXになってから機能もアップし、時代遅れな前バージョンより良くなってる。

オンボードの音源が壊れたとか、OSがオンボードの音源に対応していないとか
なんらかのトラブルで使えなくなった場合、もっとも低価格で補えるカードだと思います。
PCケースのフロント側の再生録音コネクターとつなげられるならば★５だったです。おしい。

私の場合、低価格マザーのオンボード音源が使えなくなったので、これを使いました。
P5BDELUX、P５Qシリーズのマザーや、Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamerも持ってますが
なかなか良い感じです。　低コストというのが良い。
