The Colemans put together several amazing historical books on dolls and this is book does not disappoint.
I'm certain in the last 20 years there has been additional research on doll clothing, but this book remains a high point. 794 pp, 5.75 pounds, in a surprisingly decent binding from Crown: cloth over boards with a sewn binding. The book begins pre-French revolution and carries through 1929 with entire chapters devoted to Kate Greenaways, early 20th century character dolls, and German Dolly-face dolls.
Hundreds and hundreds of pictures, a small color plate section, an exhaustive Glossary, lots of reproductions of period doll advertisements, an appendix on clothing your doll authentically, and over 150 pp of doll clothes patterns!
