too flowery, too picture-perfect,
By
レビュー対象商品: Child of My Heart (ハードカバー)
.The fault with this novel is not in its story. Indeed, Alice McDermott writes beautiful prose--in the sense that they are flowery. But whether it is LUCID, too, in its descriptions, I am not quite certain. (Perhaps the test will be when she describes a negative, which she hardly ever does, and when she does it is never remarkable.) Notwithstanding the merits of "Charming Billy", this fiction, while obviously attempting to depict a beautiful child, is precisely that--TOO beautiful, so as to be unbelievable. A fifteen year old sans dilemmas, negative traits, and internal conflicts? Uhm, ok. .
