７７年発表の４作目。往年の８時だよ全員集合！風のハッピ姿のポール・ロジャースに苦笑するジャケットながら、それよりもファンクっぽいリズムの１．にまずびっくり。フルートが導入されたラーガ・ロック？っぽい特徴的なメロディを聞かせる２．バトカンらしからぬ柔らかいコーラスが美しい６．などかなり意欲的な試みが見られるものの、全体的にはややマンネリ気味。バドカンのアルバムとしては比較的地味な作品だと思う。おそらく狙ったものではあるものの、ポール以外のメンバーの演奏が若干後ろに下がった印象があり、そういう意味でもちょっとポイントが低いかも。最初に聞く一枚としてはお薦めできない。ただしクオリティは低くはないのでファンなら必聴だと思う。

バッドカンパニーの1977年発表の4thアルバムです。アルバムジャケットでポール・ロジャースがはっぴを着ていることで当時話題になりました。
それまでのバッドカンパニーのアルバムに比べるとなんとなくですけど、ロジャースのヴォーカルが前面に出てきたように感じます。また Everything I Need みたいな従来のバッドカンパニーからは考えられないような曲も収録されています。彼等らしくないポップな曲なのですが、キャッチーで実にいい曲です。
バッドカンパニーはファーストアルバムだけ素晴らしく、あとはカスだけなんてことを言う方もいらっしゃいますが、決してそんなことはありませんよ!
バッドカンパニーはフリーのような重いブルース指向ではなく、どちらかと言うとアメリカンハードロック的なサウンドを目指していたように感じます。このことは本作品を聴けばよくわかることだと思います。

バンドが急成長してしまったがために初期のファンがついて行けなくなる罪なアルバムがある。例えばツェッペリンなら「プレゼンス」ポリスなら「シンクロニシティ」本作が正にそれなのである。音楽的には歴然とピークなのだが、レベルが高いのでリスナーを選んでしまうのだ。レイドバックしたゆるい曲は1~2曲程度。大半の曲は重戦車みたいなヘヴィなサウンドをバックにポールがドスの利いたヴォーカルを披露してくれます。理屈ぬきで大音量で聞いて体感して欲しい。ひとつ、ひとつの音が「生きている」のだ。13710でのポールとラルフスのギターの絡みはヘビー級のボクサーの試合さながらである。情け容赦のない辛口テイスト。
