Using a model of "fragmented authoritarianism," this volume sharpens our view of the inner workings of the Chinese bureaucracy. The contributors' interviews with politically well-placed bureaucrats and scholars, along with documentary and field research, illuminate the bargaining and maneuvering among officials on the national, provincial, and local levels.

著者について

Kenneth Lieberthal is Professor of Political Science and Research Associate of the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan. He is the coauthor of "Policy Making in China" (Princeton 1988). David M. Lampton is President of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and the editor of "Policy Implementation in Post-Mao China" (California 1987).
