While I was in America, I was always wondering how an American managed to keep his dog from going beyond his garden to his neighbor’s, because America was such a harsh lawsuit country that if his dog entered his neighbor’s garden and dropped excrement, it was supposed to bring him a serious outcome. In this respect I learned from an American friend that every American lays electric wire underneath the ground just around his premises so that the electric shock will keep his dog from going farther and that because by getting only one time electric shock, the dog never goes beyond the point, he has only to keep the electricity on until the dog learns the range of the electric wire, say perhaps two days, at most, so the pay for electricity is almost nothing.
This episode indicates that if you want a creature to get away from a certain thing, you have only to get that thing electrified and make that creature touch it just one time. In this book, by the use of the same theory, the people are mass-produced who will never approach a book or a flower, because they are made to touch electrified book or electrified flower when they are babies. It’s a horrible world like in ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four’.
