　まず第一に、ボストンについて書かれているレヴューを読むと、ボストンを「プログレ」に分類しているものがありますが、それは間違いです。ボストンはロックはロックですが、これと言ったジャンルに配属出来ないタイプのバンドで、唯一無二のボストンサウンドを誇っています。
　このデビュー作（の原型）は、フロントマンのトムショルツがマサチューセッツ工科大学を卒業し、とある有名なフィルム会社に就職した際、自宅のスタジオで録音したものです。驚きなのが、このような作品を１９７６年（と言ってもレコーディングには数年も拘って作ってますが）に、しかも、殆どたった一人で作り上げてしまっているということです。現代の技術では、このようなアレンジのこのようなサウンドをコンピュータやシンセサイザーで作ることも出来ますが、当時これだけの進んでおり、しかも、今聴いても微塵の古さも感じさせない作品を作ることができたことに脱帽します。
　聞き所としては、ボストンの（トムショルツの）一番のトレードマークであろう「ギターオーケストレーション」でしょう。ギターを何重かに録音し、ハモさせたり、音に厚みを増したりする技術ですが、これの方法で一番有名なクイーンのブライアンメイに勝るとも劣らない素晴らしいサウンドに仕上がっています。
　宅録思考（嗜好）のギタリスト、レコーディングエンジニアなどでこの作品を持ってない人は、必ず勉強になるので購入したほうがいいと思います。

もはやこの音は新譜である。さすがトムシュルツが一度発売を延期しても自らリマスターしただけのことはある。
トムシュルツのコメントにもあったようにライブはベストテイクではないため結局未収録。私は、３０年前のロングビーチのライブをＦＭからカセツトでエアチェック保存してあるが、貴重な音源とはいえ、冷静に考えれば完璧さを求めるトムシュルツがリリースするはずもない。レビューにだまされてＬＩＶＥ音源を期待した自分はなさけないが、リマスター自体は完璧である。

「コンピュータ使用せず」
「シンセサイザー使用せず」

今でも海外のロック・アーティスト達が、
「魂込めて一生懸命やろう！」という合言葉として使っているこの名ゼリフ、
このボストンが生み出した言葉です。

実に３０年も前に創り出された、このアルバムの音源のクウォリティの高さは、
今回の丁寧なリマスターで、またも見事に証明されました。
（既存のＳＡＣＤ盤よりも高音質だと思います）

トム・ショルツ自身によるライナーノーツや、
今回、初めて明記されたスタッフ・クレジットを見ると、
「伝説」や「噂」の一端が解明されるオマケ付です。
（日本盤は全て翻訳されてますし、紙ジャケなので、実はソチラがお奨めです）

この音はどうやって創られたのか、この音はどういう行程でミックスされたのか、
そもそも「この驚愕すべきサウンドは、なぜここにあるのか・・・！」、
１００メートル先からでも「あっ、ボストンだっ！」と判る、あのサウンド・・・

分厚いのに透明感があり、重厚なのに耳馴染みが良く、壮大なのに繊細なあのサウンドは、
もはや聴いた人にしか判らない、
まさに「More Than A Feeling（感覚を超越）」な、素晴らしき「体験」です。

「産業ロック」などに分類されて過小評価され、
確かに「ロックの殿堂」には入らないかもしれませんが、
このファースト・アルバムは、確実に「ロック史上の名盤」です。
（１０００万枚を軽く超えるセールスも、それを物語っています）

「本当にヒトの心を打ち、感動させる」モノは、
安直な機械や、計算式から創り出されるモノではない！、という事を、
是非、この機会に「体験」してみて下さい。

ロックを愛し、理解しようとしていらっしゃる若い皆様にこそ、
是非、聴いて頂きたいです。
そして、ココロを込めて創ったモノは、時代を経ても古くならない、と思って貰えたら、
古くからの一ファンとして、とても嬉しく思います。
