   テキサスのギターの神童、エリック・ジョンソンが10年近い不在を経てレコーディングに戻ってきた。一瞬のうつろいを避けた瑞々しく抑制の効いた曲をひっさげて。アルバムの16曲を音楽の3部作にアレンジして、それぞれのセクションを“プレリュード”“クーラント”“アルマンド”と名づけ、熟練を感じさせるほど微妙に、気分の変化を情景で描こうとした。このギタリストのトレードマークである歌詞スタイルは、冒頭のアルバム・タイトル曲ですぐにそれとわかる。「Summer Jam」、そして墜落した宇宙飛行士に捧げた荘厳な「Columbia」でも然りだ。

   最初のセクションはファンクの「Good to Me」で勢いもある。インストゥルメンタルの「Sea Secret」に見られる様々な印象と、ポップ風のバラード「Sad Legacy」の良心に満ちた疾走、「From My Heart」のなめらかなグルーヴとR&Bの情熱へと、次々に変化する。思わず指を鳴らしたくなる「Tribute to Jerry Reed」は切れ目なく最後のセクションへと進む。このセクションには、ロマンチックでゲストのショーン・コルヴィンが際だったハーモニーを聞かせている「Your Sweet Eyes」、品の良いウェス・モンゴメリー風で70年代的な「Hesistant」、そしてアシッドジャズの「Magnetized」がある。ジョンソンによるディランの「My Back Pages」のフュージョン的なカバー、甘ったるい「Sunnaround You」も素晴らしい。このアルバムはジョンソンの、趣味の良い、時に内省的な音楽の霊感への極上のトリビュートだ。（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com）

待ちに待ったスタジオ作品としては、ネット販売オンリーの「Souvenir」は除きヴィーナスアイル以来の作品です！！
　音質的にはヴィーナスアイルよりも太く丸みのある音になったような気がします。また激しい曲調も増え最近の若いキッズにも親しまれるような作品になった気もします。しかしやはりそこはエリックジョンソン氏、ため息が出るほどの美しい空間へ聴くものをいざなってくれます！！今年５１歳になるエリックジョンソン氏ですが声もテクニックも変わらず若いです！！
　１０月には来日もひかえてますます楽しみになってきます。

このアルバムは３分前後の曲が多く、１６曲が３部構成の形でつくられています。割とフュージョン・ロック色の強い“Ｐｒｅｌｕｄｅ”、オリエンタルというか神秘的な雰囲気の“Ｃｏｕｒａｎｔｅ”、ジャズっぽい感じの“Ａｌｌｅｍａｎｄｅ”とあって、いろんなカラーを見せてくれます。あくまでも（ノリのいい曲の方が好きという）自分の好みですが、“Ｐｒｅｌｕｄｅ”の部分の曲がどれも短くてあっさりとした感じなので、ここをもっとふくらませてくれてたら良かったという点で、星を一つ落としました。第一印象のインパクトで言えば、『ＴＯＮＥＳ』や『Ｖｅｎｕｓ　Ｉｓｌｅ』、『未来への扉』の方があったような気はします。でも、彼の“ＴＯＮＥ”は健在だし、『Ｇ３　ＬＩＶＥ』で「ＩＮＴＲＯ　ＳＯＮＧ」というタイトルだった曲が「１２　ｔｏ　１２　Ｖｉｂｅ」とちゃんとタイトルがついてスタジオ・テイクで聴けるのも嬉しい限りです。彼のアルバム共通ですが、聴くほどに耳に馴染んできます。

独特のリリシズム，ギターの音色，美しい声などどれもエリック・ジョンソンそのもの．安心して聴けるのだけれど，でもどこか新しい．これまでのエリックとぜんぜん変わらないようでいて，ギターのフレージングや曲構成がさらに磨かれ，研ぎ澄まされたようだ．ちょっとジャズっぽいプレイが増えたように思う．個人的には8.Sad Legacyと12.Your Sweet Eyesが刺激的と感じた．インストもヴォーカル曲も両方，いいバランスで入っています．絶対オススメの1枚です．
