Dragon Ashがベストアルバムを出す、と最初聴いたときはがっかりした。Kjがあれほど嫌っていて絶対出さないなんて言っていたベストを、自ら出そうと言いだした。節目の年かもしれないがなんか腑に落ちない。
しかしファン投票の結果、そして実際の収録曲を見て、どうしたもんか、楽しみで仕方なくなってる自分がいた。インタビューを読んでも彼らなりにファンへ感謝をしたいというのだから、「感謝してるのはこっちだ」と思いつつ受け取らせてもらおうと思う。



さて内容だが、こちらは「Viva La Revolution」までのベスト。彼らがシーンの、音楽の進化の最前線へと辿り着くまでの道程である。
ファンそれぞれに選曲に対する個人的な想いは色々あるだろう。投票の意味を問う人もいるだろう。ただまあ、始めから投票結果を参考にメンバーがセレクトってことだったし、シングルコレクションじゃそれこそDAらしくないし、自分は納得している。「Grateful Days」が入ってなくても、極端かもしれないが自分の大好きな「Mustang A Go Go」が入ってなくても文句はない。むしろファンから支持された曲、DAの歴史上重要な曲、メンバー自身がファンとして選んだ曲がバランスよく入ってるんじゃないだろうか。しかも新曲まで入ってるんだから。
これで過去のシークレットがシークレットで入っていれば尚おもしろいが。


Dragon Ashほど音楽の開拓に成功したバンドはいない(くるりもそうだがセールスも考えると)。そして楽曲はもちろん、音楽に対するスタンスもビジネスとの折り合いの付け方も含め良いバンドだと思う。彼らの革命がまだ続くことを喜びつつ、ひとまず10年間ありがとうございました。

ブルーハーツが好きだった降谷は高校在籍時からRockでバンドデビューし、自分の思いを歌詞に込め歌い上げてきました。
それから若干２０歳で「革命」を起こし多くの同世代の若者を勇気づけました。そしてジャンルもHipHop、Mixture、Latinへと降谷のインスピレーションのまま進化しました。Dragon Ashがいかに変化してきたのか、どう時代を担ってきたのか。
収録曲には詰まっていると思います。
またこのアルバムには本人達の好きな曲も厳選してあるらしいです。

ファンの方だけでなく、買いだと思います！

Dragon Ashのクラシック、Viva la ravolution までが収録されたベストアルバム。

今現在は無知な素人リスナーに批判されたりはしているが、DAは当時の20歳弱にしてはクオリティ高すぎました。メロディ。詞。声。ZEEBRAも一時は絶賛した押韻。聞き入ってみてください。どこをとっても一級品です。素晴らしすぎます。
今の若い子達は愛だとか好きな人だとか若さ故の詞が中心だが、彼は家族、ツレへの思いを中心に詞にしています。当時にしては斬新で衝撃的でした。
20歳で是程だったんだから。2002年10月17日あの曲がドロップされ無かったら。disしてきたのが尊敬していた人でなくkjがアンサーしていたら。

今頃彼らはどんな名曲を世に送り出していたのだろうか。
色んな事を考えてしまう。

ラップを辞め寡作になった後の彼らについてはよく知らないが”この時期”を評価して☆5つ。と言いたいところだが代表曲が入って無かったので☆4つ。
