私が最初にデヴィットの声に触れたのはVan Halenの「暗黒の掟」からでした。最初聴いたときはあまり歌うまくないじゃんと思っていたけれどこのアルバムを聴いてからVan halenの曲聴いたらデイヴがいかにセクシーでハスキーな声を持っているかがわかりました。ビリーとスティーヴの入っていた時代の曲もすごいけれど、彼らが抜きのときの曲もいいです。特に未発表曲の「Don't Piss Me off」なんかは派手じゃないけどその分彼の歌声の魅力を感じ取ることが出来るはずです。わたくしは感じ取りました。

ただ、ひとつ難を言わせて貰えば最後の曲はないほうがいいと思いました。彼のやる気のなさが前面に出たまま終ってしまうので。でも全体的に派手な曲ばっかりなんで、これでもいいかな？そんな感じです。二十曲も入ってて彼のヒストリーを存分に感じ取ることが出来ると思います。彼の歌が下手だと思っている人にこそ聞いて欲しいです。

これほどハッピーで楽しくなれるアルバムはないかもしれない。コンセプトはベストである以上にamusementなんじゃないかと思えるくらい。ジャケットからして「ケツ」だしてんじゃん！！みたいな。ヴァンヘイレンを抜けてからの作品「eat`em smile」や次作品「skyscraper」からもいいとこどりです。耳に慣れているのはやはりスティ-ヴヴァイ在籍の頃の輝きがなんといっても一番。日本公演ではヴァイの方がうけてたんじゃないかと。それはそれとしてですが楽しめるアメリカ感、エロなシンガーとしていえばロッドスチュアートよりも色っぽいと思いますがどうでしょう。「shy boy」はbilly seehanのどのバージョンよりこれが好きです。いつまでもダイヤモンドの輝きを失わずにいこうとして、楽曲やシンガーとしてのクオリティの底上げもなんとなく読めてくるアルバムであることもベストならではの選曲じゃないでしょうか。
