『ベスト・オヴ・ボウイ』には、各国ごとに異なるヴァージョンが存在します。CD一枚にほとんど『レッツ・ダンス』までの曲しか収録していない日本国内盤、ミックス、リミックス・ヴァージョンを含むという意味でちょっとひねったUK二枚組盤などに比べると、このUS二枚組盤は、『レッツ・ダンス』のあとも含めてボウイの全キャリアをとりあえず俯瞰しているという意味で、妥当で素直な編集になっています。近年リマスターされたボウイのオリジナル・アルバムと同じく、最新の24ビットのデジタル・リマスター盤なので、音も大丈夫です。

ただ、惜しむべくは、ぼくの好きな「スターマン」（『ジギー・スターダスト』）が入っていないことは、オリジナル・アルバムで聴けばいいことなので、別に構わないとしても、ディスク２-８「モダン・ラヴ」が、日本国内盤その他ではシングル・ヴァージョンを収録していることが多いのに、なぜかこのUS二枚組盤では、『レッツ・ダンス』のアルバム・ヴァージョンになっていることです。アルバム・ヴァージョンはオリジナル・アルバムでも聴けるのだから、シングル・ヴァージョンの「モダン・ラヴ」を収録してほしかったです。
あと、残念ながら、歌詞はついていません。

　各国ごとに異なるヴァージョンの「Best of Bowie」。どれを買おうかと迷ってしまう人がいるかもしれない。正直、日本盤は曲数も少なく、日本で主にメジャーでヒットした曲ばかりだった。だが、このアメリカ盤では実に充実したナンバーがこれでもかというばかりに聴ける。

　カメレオンのごとく変化していくボウイが思う存分聴け、ボウイ・ファンにとってはいちいちコンポなどでCDを入れ替えたり、プログラムして聴くことなく、聴き入ることができ、またこれからボウイを聴いてみようという人には恰好のCDといえるでしょう。

最近のボウイはレコード会社に任せず自らも進んで選曲などに参加するという情報も入っています。ＵＳ盤は単に米でのヒットだけを集めているとは考えにくいです。音がどうしてもデジタル処理をしていてボウイのアルバムは内容の素晴らしさに反比例して音質の悪さは最高でしたが、そういう面で再発盤と旧盤のちがいがあるので本作どちらがいいかというのはファンの気分次第ですがこのアルバムに関しては別格の重大なテーマがあります。世界各国すべて選曲、曲順が違いますがＳＬＯＷ　ＢＵＲＮ（静かな怒り）ですべて終わるようになっております。このニューヨーク９．１１への怒りはもちろんテロだけに向けられたものでなく。すべての権力のために実際の被害を蒙る社会一般の人たちという現実に向けられたものでありジェネレラリストと自称しているボウイの生涯のテーマがまさに爆発する結果となっております。素晴らしいボウイの生き様が描かれたベストアルバムです
