職人による、職人向けというわけではなく、すべてのロックファンが
とても楽しめる作品です。
１でのパワーに圧倒させられ、２のツェッペリンばりの
重厚なロックで、その奥深さに触れたところで、３で一休み。
４のソウルベース（？）のリズムにベックのギターがからみ、
５でアコースティックな完成度の高いブルース。

６のバッドカンパニーを思わせる気持ちよいロック、
７では初期ジェフ・ベック・グループを彷彿とさせるギターさばき、
８のハードロックから９のフュージョンの雰囲気を思わせる始まりから
ハーモニー豊かなバラードでしめる。
技を持っている人たちが作り出す最上の
ロックのお手本のような作品です。

元バニラファッジのメンバ-だったC.Appice(dr).とT.Bogert(Ba)とのトリオ。Jeffにとって初めてのトリオ編成。近年は'Flash'を最後にボ-カリストを置かなくなったが、ボ-カルの後ろでギタ-を弾くJeffは最高である。特にボ-カルの隙間に突くように入れるplayは天下一品。そういう意味でこのアルバムはインストは１曲もなしで、彼の芸術的なギタ-が十分堪能できる。全曲、申し分ない出来でロックの黄金時代を彷彿とさせる。弱点を強いてあげれば、C.Appiceのボ-カルの弱さであろう。しかしそれを差し引いてもこの作品はロック史上に残る名盤の１枚である。

元祖「孤高の天才ギタリスト」ジェフ・ベックが1973年に結成したBBAによる唯一のスタジオ盤です。メンバーは元ヴァニラ・ファッジ（シュープリームスのカバー曲「Keep Me Hangin' On」で有名なアートロックグループ）の強力リズム隊、ティム・ボガート（ベース）とカーマイン・アピス（ドラム）という構成。

HR界のトリオといえば、先行してジミ・ヘンドリックス＆エクスペリエンスとエリック・クラプトンを一躍スターダムへと押し上げたクリームが先輩格として存在し、よく比較の対象になります。３グループとも偶然にも2年未満の活動期間という短命に終わり、短いながらも鮮烈なインパクトをロック界に与えました。先輩格の２グループが斬新な表現方法とアイデアで音楽界に多大な影響を与えたのに対して、このBBAはジェフ・ベックという稀代の天才ギタリストが「こんな音楽をやりたいな」という「一時的な思い」でスタートしただけに、当初から一過性の様相を帯びていました。したがって、先輩グループと比較してやや印象が薄いのは否めません。また、クリームと違ってギターファン以外の人にとっては近寄りがたい雰囲気をもっているのも肯けます。ジェフ・ベックが「孤高の存在」と言われるのはそんな所以です。しかし、ギターファン、ベックファンにとっては堪らないほどの魅力を放っているのは間違いないところ。名曲「Lady」「Superstion」などは当時としては「数年先を行く」素晴らしい楽曲であるばかりでなく、やや停滞気味だったベック自身が強力リズム隊が触発されることで、見事に蘇生しています。

さて、同じメンバーで録音されたセカンドアルバムは海賊盤でしか聴くことができませんが、そろそろ「発掘」されてもいいタイミングだと思うのですが…。
