because of youはもちろんのことNe-Yoの美声に溢れた一枚。

個人的には無難な線にまとまってしまった印象。軽やかに流れて行ってしまい、これという衝撃がないです。

それと購入した輸入版はあまりライナーノーツが豊富じゃありませんでした。歌詞を見てみたかったので少し残念でした。

『In My Own Words』で歌手デビューを果たしたアメリカのトッププロデューサー、Ne-Yoの待望の2ndアルバム。Billboardアルバムチャートでは前作に引き続き1位。日本でも、オリコン総合アルバムチャートで2位に食い込む人気です。

Ne-Yoの魅力といえば、甘い歌声とセクシーな歌詞、メロディアスな曲調。そして、この美メロこそが日本人の耳に受け入れられる理由でしょう。先行トラックの『Because Of You』は、大ヒットした『So Sick』のメロディアス傾向を意識しつつ、テンポを速めてノリやすくした極上のダンスチューン。アルバムは全体的にポップ寄りのR&B。どこか浮遊感漂う、空想的な雰囲気に包まれています。コーラスの美しさも健在。ただ、どの曲も非常に聴きやすく良曲なのですが、引っかかるものが少ない印象を受けます。次々にさらさらと流れてしまう。ですが、あとからじわじわと染みてくるのが彼の作品の魅力なのかもしれません。聴けば聴くほど味が出ます。

本作の目玉は、ゲストにJay-Z、そして映画『DREAMGIRLS』で女優デビューを飾ったJennifer Hudsonをゲストに迎えたところ。特に、Jenniferは映画中でも抜群の歌唱力を披露していただけに、Ne-Yoとのデュエット『Leaving Tonight』も要注目。ふたりの掛け合いがなんとも絶妙な、ソウルフルでロマンティックなスローバラードです。その他のおすすめ曲は、『Do You』『Angel』『Make It Work』。

『So Sick』のビッグヒットを含む前作に比べると、個々の印象はやや薄いものの、全体の統一感に優れ、安心して聴けるアルバム。あらゆるシチュエーションに映えそうな内容で、BGMとして流したら最高かもしれません。

☆３つというのも、前作が良すぎるためです。
とにかく前作が良すぎて、前作を聞いた後に聞くとしょぼく感じます。
個人的には１曲目Because of Youと最後のしか☆５つに至っていません。

いづれにせよNe-Yoファンなら買いだと思いますが…。
