Beatles for Sale on Parlophone Records [ハードカバー]

When noted author and New Orleans native Bruce Spizer published his final book about the American records from the Beatles back in 2007, many thought he was finished with this type of publication. Behold - he strikes again with yet another winner! This time, it is called "Beatles For Sale On Parlophone Records", an exhaustive yet informative piece of work that covers all the stories about the Beatles records released on the Parlophone label in the U.K. Just like the prior books about Vee-Jay, Capitol, Apple and Swan, this book contains full color and original black-and-white images of all known existing album covers, picture sleeves, record labels and other items pertaining to these releases. The book details how all of the recordings released by the group during that time were written, recorded and marketed in the U.K. -- presented in the same style as Spizer's previous critically-acclaimed books on the Beatles American record releases. In addition to discs with Parlophone labels, the book covers the Apple singles and albums manufactured and distributed by EMI, as well as the Fan Club Christmas discs and the Polydor releases of the group's Hamburg recordings. Covered are all 22 singles from "Love Me Do" to "Let It Be"; 15 U.K. albums including both unreleased variations of the infamous "Get Back" album and the 1966 compilation "A Collection Of Beatles Oldies"; over 15 original U.K. E.P. (extended play) records which also feature information about the cancelled "The Beatles' Golden Discs" and the aborted "Yellow Submarine" titles. Plus, an impressive 30 additional chapters about other related information on the U.K. Parlophone releases. At more than 440 pages in length, this book has it all.

Even after 6 successful books about the American releases, it is nice to see Mr. Spizer once again issue another unique work, this time completely focusing on those records released in Great Britain. The Beatles became a worldwide musical phenomenon, but this book tells a special story about how these 4 young men created the music that forever changed the world. Congratulations, Bruce!

Leave it to Bruce Spizer and Frank Daniels to find another huge record collecting need and fill it beautifully. Their latest offering is nothing short of a world class publication offering comprehensive and stunning visual insight to an area of collecting that is really considered the "mother of all Beatles records". Indeed, the original UK Albums, EPs, and 45s have long needed to be documented and illustrated properly and completely and now, thankfully, it's been done. After all, Britain is the "mother country and the home of the Beatles" and these records represent our beloved band's recordings exactly as they intended them to be issued,... labels, covers and all. In many ways, these are the world's master recordings and the pressings worldwide are compared to these issues for evaluation on all levels. Therefore, it's altogether fitting that Mr. Spizer and Mr. Daniels have put together a masterful book that will, like all the other 498 productions publications, be the last word on the subject for years to come. For this project, the two noted authors wisely put together and led a highly qualified team of well known long time collectors and contributors that have enhanced the book to the highest level of quality and accuracy. Many of those collectors are noted UK resident as well offering their first hand knowledge on this wonderful subject. This book achieves, if not surpasses the level of quality that the "498" books are well known for. Besides all the priceless and detailed information, yards of which has never been published before, the book is a visual delight throughout. Even if you don't specifically collect UK records, you'll find this book a great study visually and literally. Most of Mr. Spizer's highly acclaimed books prior to this one are now long "out of print" and those that are on the "oop" list, have at least quadrupled and more in value with time. It's my advice that you get this one in it's standard and deluxe editions as the 498 series of books have proven to be the best book investments you can make. I don't get paid for this endorsement in any way. I do it because I think the book is that good and I don't mind taking to the time to tell you all about it. It truly is another fantastic addition to the long line of great "498" publications over the last nearly 15 years now.

When Bruce Spizer said he was no longer going to write and/or compile any more books on the Beatles, I was very sad. Imagine how I felt when I heard he decided to co-write a new book with Frank Daniels on the Beatles Parlophone releases? I could hardly contain myself!!! This book is another must have along with Bruce's other finely crafted books. There is no one else out there who does such an outstanding job. You can tell there is a lot of care and attention that went into this. The high quality photos and text are put together in such a way that makes repeated reading continually interesting. I'm constantly reading and re-reading my copy with the same enjoyment as the first time. While you are ordering this book, make sure you also pick up the other books before they are out of print. You'll only hit yourself later.
