   ギターの神様、エリック・クラプトン。ギター職人としてヤードバーズやジョン・メイオールのもとに在籍した時期と、長きにわたる安らぎの時期のあいだに、彼はロック史上最も圧倒的なパワーを誇ったトリオとしてその名を刻む3人組のひとりとして活動した。おたがいに肩を並べる力量を持った3人によるクリームの白熱したライヴは伝説となった。
   そう考えると、（クリームの束の間のキャリアのなかで1年あまりにわたり録音された）BBCでのスタジオライヴ22曲を収めた本作にはなおさら興味をそそられる。ジンジャー・ベイカーの複雑なドラムのリズムと、ジャック・ブルースの躍動感あるベースラインととぎ澄まされたボーカルに後押しされ、クラプトンは一心不乱に激しくプレイしている。トリオはポップで洗練された要素を、アンプの限界を越えるブルース（「Rollin' and Tumblin'」「Cat's Squirrel」）やオリジナル曲に取り入れ、オリジナル曲は初期のポップ・サイケデリック（「Strange Brew」「Sunshine of Your Love」）からライヴ受け狙いのトラック（「Wrapping Paper」「Take It Back」）までヴァラエティーに富んだものとなった。
   未発売トラック20曲を含む本作で聴けるのは、同時期にリリースされた『Disraeli Gears』のトラックと、次作『Wheels of Fire』に収録されることになるトラックの魅力あふれる初期のテイクのライヴだ。本作にはクラプトンのインタビューの抜粋が4本収録され、ベイカーとブルースはないがしろにされているが、ふたりの音楽的な貢献は無視できない。一聴すればおわかり頂けるだろうが、本作は60年代の大きくなりすぎたブルースロック界のなかでも、圧倒的な技量と集中力を見せた最高峰のバンドのライヴである。実際、クリームは最高だったのだ。（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com）

Includes renditions of then-current singles like 'I Feel Free' and 'Strange Brew' previews of upcoming album tracks like 'Tales of Brave Ulysses', 'We're Going Wrong', 'Born Under A Bad Sign', 'Politician', and 'Sunshine of Your Love', and versions of concert favorites like 'Traintime', 'Steppin' Out', and 'Crossroads', all recorded between November 1966 and January 1968. 企画自体がピンボケ。本CD発売はこの音質や演奏自体また現在でのリリースのタイミングまで全て考慮した上でこれがマニアかオールド・フアン向けであると考える。その上で幾つかの問題点がある。まずクラプトンのインタヴューばかりが挟まっている点、これはリリース側の常である「３人の実力のせめぎ合い」云々の宣伝文句とは矛盾する。次にBBC本家のマスターの割には音が悪い点。BBCというブランドイメージとは裏腹に本企画のシリーズ内でもCDの質は均一ではなくバラつきがある事に注意。また近年のバンドの気合いの入ったBBC出演と当時のショーケース的な意味合いは異なっており、当然この種の音源が既発の正規盤の質を上回る事はなかろう。サンフランシスコ関係の一連のツアー音源とパパラルデイ／ダウド関!与、この２つがクリーム盤のクリームたる鍵だ。クリームは誰か１人のカリスマではなく突出した３人＋裏方合体の概念である事で既成の業界的制約と限界を超えていったのであり、BBC出演はその業界的プロセスのひとコマ、という事に尽きる。更に音の良いブートが多数出回っている現状では、曲数と珍しさ以外の理由で本盤の内容に勧める点は余りない。

まず、音がよくないです。演奏も、ラジオ用でそこまで気合が入ってないです。音に関してなんですけど、LedZeppelinのＢＢＣものは本人たちの関与も含めて驚くようなものになっているのに。ＣＲＥＡＭは本人たちも含めて、思い入れが少ないんじゃないでしょうか。個人的には、やはりこのゆったりリズムがとてもよいSunshine Of Your Love(４拍目から急にテンポが遅くなる気がする）、初めて聴く録音のCrossroads、１５年前に初めて聴いた時、なんじゃこりゃ　ぜんぜん違うと思った、へヴィーなOutside WomaBlues(E7♭9になってる）がやっぱよっかたです。

星3つにしたけど2つにしなかったのは、やはりこのスーパーグループの個人的な思い入れからである。音質に関しては、自分が持っている海賊盤の方がよっぽどいいぐらいである。リマスターされた国内盤が市場に出ることを切に希望したい。
