　白い煙を吐く蒸気機関車を見つめる女の子。頭に小鳥をのせたまま、静かに、じっと。
　椅子に腰かけて絵本を開いている女の子。おっと、立ち上がったぞ。「なに、なに？！」と、飛び立つハト。
　窓の外を見つめている女の子。空から、真っ白なものが落ちてくる。あとから、あとから。しんしんと、音もなく。
　指しゃぶりしながら寝てしまった女の子。「ウォー、ウォー」　夢の中では、オオカミになって歩いてる。どこか、暗い森のほうへ。
　男の子がふたり、女の子がふたり。四人の子供が肩寄せ合って、壁にもたれている。ピカッ･･････ゴロゴロ･･･ドーン。外では、カミナリが鳴ってる。カミナリは、リンゴにも落ちるかな？

　絵日記みたいな八つの短いお話と、それぞれにつき、一枚から二枚の絵を収めた絵本。酒井駒子さんの絵の雰囲気が、とにかく素敵。とりわけ、女の子の表情、眼差しがいいですね。「その視線の先にあるものはなにかな」「今見ている夢はどんなだろう」と、絵の中の女の子に吸い込まれてゆく気持ちになります。落っこちるかもしれないけどやめられない、白い雲の上に乗って遊んでいるみたいな、そんな気持ちにもなります。

　本書は、『ＭＯＥ』の2004年12月号〜2006年12月号に隔月掲載された「ＢとＩとＲとＤ」をもとに全体を再構成し、全面改稿したもの。

　たぐいまれな才能を持つこの絵本作家の世界にもっとふれてみたくなった方には、まず、『Pooka+　酒井駒子 小さな世界』（Gakken）をおすすめしたいな。

子供の頃の記憶がよみがえりました。ぬいぐるみで遊んでいて、お母さんに話しかけられたとたん、ギョッとして一気に現実に返る感じ、、わかります。わたしもこんな風だった。子供のほんとうの姿に近いエピソードが、酒井駒子さんの静かな、でも何かがすごく心に届く絵と、とてもあっています。というか、こういう子供の頃の感覚をちゃんと美化しないで覚えている人だから、あんな素敵な微妙な絵がかけるのだと思いました。しかも、デザインも静かに美しい。。
