There are all kinds of boys. Batboys, tomboys, cowboys, and then there are the godboys at Mount Olympus Academy, MOA for short. It was a good thing that Artemis, Aphrodite, Persephone and Athena were best friends because they sure were going to have to band together against the godboys. Even Aphrodiva, errrr, Aphodite who was as crazy about the godboys as they were about her, was one of the first to admit that because girls wouldn't be able to participate in the Olympics the only thing they could do was "cheer for the boys." Rah, rah, sis boom bah ... u-n-f-a-i-r! It sure was.
To top it all off there were two more boys on the scene and they were BIG boys. Giant twin brothers, Otus and Ephialtes, had come to MOA to attend school because they were going to be in the Games. Ephialtes was not only big as in BIG, but he also had a big mouth. He claimed that the godboys kinda played like girls, and when Artemis told the twins that there were a lot of girls at MOA who were good enough to play in the Games he became flippant. "There's no way that's gonna happen, girly. Besides aren't you worried you might mess up your hair?" Godzooks! There was something brewing at MOA and it wasn't yambrosia.
Apollo, Artemis's twin brother, was miffed at her for accidentally on purpose turning Actaeon into a stag and even Principal Zeus was on a roll. "... the best way for you---for all girls---to enjoy the Games is from a seat in the bleachers." Hmmmph! That one would even make Medusa's snakes stand on end. Hissssssss! Artemis was also worried because Apollo was going to try to fight the Parnassus Python in the Python-o-thon. Godsamighty, there was only one thing to do, but could it be done? Artemis made up her mind and told her friends that "We'll start a girls-only Olympics!" That would be utterly diva-divine, but could they pull it off without causing an all out war between the goddess girls and the godboys?
Artemis has a passel full of problems from the godboys to the Python-o-thon. Of course this series never fails to disappoint and somehow seems to get better. Artemis and her dogs, Suez, Amby, and Nectar, are among my favorite characters in the series. I must admit it's hard to choose because they all are interesting, down-to-earth portrayals of "real" Greek gods and goddesses. In this adventure Artemis is experiencing a real Pain-o-thon with all the problems she has to deal with. This book has a bit of everything for the reader from the battle of the sexes to a bit of love (I'm not saying who's involved!). If you're already a goddessgirl fan you'll know what to expect, but if you aren't you're in for a real treat!
