Despite the usual internet searches I was unable to find the contents of the DVD, so I just took my chances and ordered the book, and I'm glad I did. I've had to resort to an old VHS tape and YouTube to see Lye's films, and although there are only four of them here, the prints have vivid colors, and it's nice to have a few of these in the DVD format. I hope others will find this listing helpful.
I was at first concerned when I saw the DVD label said "PAL", but I guess it's mislabelled because it plays in my Region 1 NTSC player.
DVD Contents:
"Art thet Moves" - An 18 minute dramatized short film about Lye as a teen "as he develops his ideas about motion".
*Lye's Films*:
Swinging the Lambeth Walk
Trade Tatoo
Color Cry
Free Radicals
Sculptures:
Fountainhead
Roundhead
Blade
Fire Bush
Universe
The book is also very well done, and has a 16-page section of color illustrations as well as B&W photos throughout the book. The book covers the films as well as the sculptures, and even has a photo of the creepy monkey puppet used for his 1934 stop-motiion "Peanut Vendor" film.
Highly recommended!
