18年ぶりの新作ですが、以前の緊張感は影をひそめ、穏やかな刺激の少ない一枚。以前は新参者扱いだったニール・ヤングがここでは主役になっています。それぞれのメンバーが自作曲を好きなように料理したような感じですが、その中でもヤングの力量が突出していて、全体的なまとまりに欠けます。再結成という話題性はありましたが、内容的には前作にははるかに及ばない内容です。持ち寄った曲数にもばらつきがあります。特にクロスビーはこの直後に、久々のソロアルバムを発表をひかえていた為、このアルバムに曲を出し渋ったことは明らかです。CSNではちょくちょく集まってアルバムを作っていましたが、そこにYまで加えてアルバムつくりをする、前向きな意味合いが全く見えてこない内容です。個々の曲の出来自体はそれほど悪くはなく、個人的にはスティルスの2は好きな曲です。

「デジャ・ブ」から18年振りにあの傑作を造ったメンバーが再結集して
アルバムを造るとなれば、こちらは過度な期待をしてしまう。
でもあの再現は無理だった。
考えてみれば、あの当時は４人ともとんがっていてお互い相手に負けるか
という競争心があの異様なテンションの作品を生んだのに、今はなにか
仲良しクラブのようになっている４人では化学反応は起きなかったということか。
特に当時一番とんがっていたニールが現在は４人の中で飛び抜けた存在に
なっており、逆に余裕をもってこのアルバムに望んだのが一番いけなかったのだろう。
1や5をCSNYでやろうとするニールの考えや12をCSNY用にとっておいた
ナッシュ等自分達のグループのイメージは十分わかっているのに、
喧嘩腰で立ち向かうという姿勢が彼らのアルバムを傑作にするという覚悟が
彼らになかったのは本当におしい。

CSN&Yの18年ぶりの2ndアルバム。これが意外な傑作です。全体的にまったりとしているのですが、やはりYさんの存在が大きく、適度に辛味が効いている所がとても良いです。アメリカン・フォーク・ロックの良さを凝縮したようなアルバムなので、この手のロックが好きな人には、たまらない一枚だと思います。
