Alwyn Crawshaw is television's No. 1 painter and has made seven popular TV series for Channel 4, all with accompanying books. Alwyn is author of 13 other art instruction books, all published by HarperCollins. He runs popular painting courses and holidays and is a regular contributor to the Leisure Painter magazine. Alwyn is Founder and President of the Society of Amateur Artists.

Anyone can learn to paint with this book

Mr. Crawshaw is an artist/ author with a very conversational, encouraging tone. He makes you believe you can really learn to paint, and well. (This book is best for beginners in this medium, but has excellent hints and tips throughout for the more experienced soul.) This book guides you step by step through familiarity with the sometimes intimidating techniques of oil paint. Most every (short) chapter is chock full of practical hints and tips, and there is usually some sort of interesting painting exercise that turns out so good (if you do it) that you will be thoroughly hooked and inspired!!! i have checked this book out of our library four times, and I am finally on here to buy my own copy. there are oil paint smudges on the library book from me, and others, who have loved the book. this book also contains a lot of information on painting out of doors and simplifying what you see. this book will be loved especially by those that prefer an Impressionistic style. Love, love this book!
