A course of 29 lessons to help the beginner master the art of oil painting. Starting with simple exercises on brush control and how to mix colours, the book goes through all the basic methods and techniques of oil painting, explaining each process and offering advice and encouragement at every stage. Readers are shown how to paint specific subjects, how to tackle problems when painting outdoors and how to paint from photographs. One section of the book is a feature on "what went wrong". These consist of different painting exercises which illustrate all the common pitfalls and how to avoid them. The final section of the book contains a series of step-by-step painting demonstrations with full instructions and a gallery of finished paintings.

This is a great book for artists of all levels, Crawshaws style of painting and writing is very enlighening and entertaining, a book for every artists library no matter what style you paint in.
