岡崎能士原作のコミックを、サミュエル・L・ジャクソンが気に入り、声優としてだけでなくプロデューサーも務め、アメリカで製作されたアニメシリーズ『アフロサムライ』。アメリカでは07年1月にスパイクTVで、日本ではWOWOWで放映された。この劇場版はそのTV放映版をベースに新作カットも取り入れて再編集＆を行ったものだ。時代劇とソウルカルチャーが融合した世界観自体が面白いし、刀を使ったアクションも手に汗握る大迫力。父親を目の前で惨殺されたアフロサムライが仇討ちの旅に出るという、いかにも日本人が好きそうな話なのもたまらないし、キャラクターもメチャクチャかっこいい。ただテレビアニメを繋げただけという感も否めず、その場その場の高揚感はあっても、全体として高揚していく感がないのだ。どうせならお金をかけてでも劇場用としてキチンと作り直せば、とんでもないアニメになったのではないか…という気がしてならないだけに惜しい。サミュエルは本作の実写化を望んでいるそうだが、是非このユニークな世界観を壊すことなく作り上げていただきたいもの。そうすればマジで世界にアフロサムライ・ブームが起こるかも。そのくらいパワーのある作品なのだから。（横森文）

一番に挑む資格があるのは、二番の鉢巻をした者のみ。
これがいい。
サミュエル・L・ジャクソンをはじめ、声優は全部アチラの人みたいだけど、
無国籍な感じが出て、新鮮だった。
バックに流れるラップもカッコよかった。

久々に面白いアニメを見た。

最強の者が一番の鉢巻をしています。
一番に勝負を挑むことができるのは二番の鉢巻をしている者だけです。
なので二番の鉢巻を奪うために二番は常に戦いを強いられます。
主人公が二番の鉢巻をしているのには理由があります。
それがちょくちょく回想シーンとして差し込まれますが、
そのタイミングがよろしくない。
編集ミスなのか構成ミスなのか・・・。
絵もよく楽しめるだけに残念。

映像、ストーリー、声の演技、どれを取っても高いレベルの作品です
で・す・が
全体を通して、現在と過去の回想を行ったり来たりする流れになっていおり
この「回想」が致命的です。

回想には2種類あり、一つはフラッシュバックの様な形で、チラッと過去のシーンが垣間見えるパターン
もう一つは、長々と回想シーンが続くパターンです

前途した様に、非常に分かり易い話になっているので
チラチラと垣間見せる程度でも、過去に何があったのか大体分かってしまいます。
問題なのは、それに長々と付け足される回想シーンです。
知っている事をもう一度説明されている感じで、「退屈」とさえ感じます。
過去は過去で、冒頭にパパッと終わらせるか、もう少し端折って欲しかったです。

あとスプラッタなシーンが多いので、そういうのが苦手な方は注意が必要です
