著名な二人が、本分という言葉をキーに、それぞれの経験を踏まえて、どう生きるべきかということについて、対談しています。彼らのように普通の人が想像でないような経験を積んできた人たちの言葉には、傾聴するに値するところがあります。対談ですから、堅苦しくなく簡単に読めます。さらっと読み終わった後に、私はこれから何のために生きるのかを、もう一度考えてみようという気になりました。

瀬島龍三　　91歳　伊藤忠元会長　元軍人　シベリア抑留11年　帰国後伊藤忠入社

二人の対談集
日野原先生の博識と明快な答は、世にいう老人といったものとは縁遠い。いや、老人とは本当は尊敬語であって、このお二人の話を聞いたら、敬意を払う。

若干お二人の会話の中に、戦前戦中の国家感、滅私奉公的なところがあるが、それは差引いても、すべて経験に裏打ちされている言葉であり、聞きやすい。
自分も今からでも遅くないな、大胆に未完のままでいい人生がまっとうできたらいいなと思う。
対談集だけに、わかりやすく肉声に近い言葉で読みやすいのに、中身が薄っぺらでない。
