As a visiting scholar in Japan, I needed a storage disk (Time Machine)
for my two MacBooks (Pro and Air): I didn't bring any for questions of weight.
The product "LaCie 2.5 rugged 1TB" turned out excellent, for three reasons at least:
i) This storage disk is extremely fast, indeed faster than the standard (and heavier)
ones I was accustomed to.
ii) It is very light, partly due to the absence of external transformer: it feeds on
the computer through one of its USB ports. Three sorts of ports can be used to exchange
data (USB, Firewire 400/800); the disk is thus linked to the computer through two ports.
Btw, the 4 cables (USB alimentation + USB/Firewire400/800) are part of the package.
iii) It's a sort of orange turtle, whose rubber shell is a great improvement over
standard LaCie disks, a wee oversensitive to shock. Together with its light
weight, this makes it ideal for travel.
As to buying with Amazon.jp, I chose the option "delivery in a convenience store"
(one of those never closing shops) in that case one "LAWSON". This form of delivery is
very efficient: fast and reliable.
