ビートルズがデビュー間もない１９６２年、５度目のハンブルグ公演を録音したライブアルバム。
録音状態は良くないが当時の雰囲気は十分に伝わってくる。
デビューアルバムにも収録されている
I Saw Her Standing There
Twist and Shout
Taste of Honey
Ask Me Why
などが収録されているところが興味深い。
スタジオ録音版には無いライブバンドとしての躍動感が随所に見られる。
ジョージ・ハリスンのギターの調子が今ひとつであるがドライブ感には影響なし。
リンゴ・スターの抜群のドラムはデビュー当時から既にプロフェッショナルであった事
が確認できる。
このＣＤは全２４曲の収録であるが、以前発売されていた完全版（全３２曲）の再発売
が待たれるところである。
いずれにしても、ライブバンドとしてのビートルズを堪能できる事に違いは無い。

~後に、ジョンが、「俺たちのライヴはハンブルグ時代が最高だった」とか、「セックスピストルズのライヴを見たけど、あれは俺たちがハンブルグでやってたことだ」などとコメントしていたが、その意味がよくわかる１枚。彼ら自身が本当に楽しんで演奏しているのがよくわかるし、劣悪な録音状態が更にそのエネルギッシュさを強調しているようにさえ感じる。分裂~~状態の時期に、ポールがゲリラ的ライヴをメンバーに提案したらしいが、それはきっとこの頃の連帯感を取り戻したかったのではないだろうか？それほどここでの彼らの演奏は、若さとエネルギーに満ちあふれている。~

しかしロックンロールの名演に上手い下手は関係なく、天才的なアドリブソロも必要無い。
肝心なのは「聴いてて腰が動くかどうか」だ！！
そういう意味でこれは名盤だ！しかし聴き手によって評価は分かれる。

●ドラムとベースを重視する人、ギターのミスとか気にしない人、勢い、迫力重視の人
→オリジナルアルバムに匹敵する名盤。俺は少なくともFOR SALEよりは好きだ！

●屁理屈で音楽を聴く人、神経質な人、音質重視の人
→「演奏は粗くて音は悪いが歴史資料的な価値はある」などと言う。


まあとにかくパンクの元祖を求めてるアンチビートルズはまず最初にこれを聴け！
