やっべー…。こんな下手っぴな文章でレビュー書いてる場合じゃないよ、私！ってな感じだ。負けました、やられましたよ、１２歳に！（文学にも音楽にも年齢など関係ないと思ってはいるものの、こんな言葉が出てしまう。）
大賞受賞作『月のさかな』は、対人関係をどう自己の中で処理するかというテーマにおいて、そのやり方に「うーん！」と唸らされるものがあった。（読んでいる途中、「なんか森絵都と江國香織を足して２で割った感じっぽいな」などと呟いていたら、著者は森氏のファンだとのことだった）
もうひとつの大賞受賞作『「明太子王国」と「たらこ王国」』は若さゆえの想像力溢れるファンタジー。各章のタイトルに〈いたずらのつもりが…〉〈つれさられたおにぎり〉といった、こちらをわくわくさせる言葉の強さが新鮮だった。
佳作『オトナのひとへ。』は青春文学といった感じ。最近若くして文学賞を受賞する作家たちによく見られるような、醒めた視線で描かれた作品だった。作風から三並夏の『平成マシンガンズ』を彷彿とさせる。

そして、最も印象に残った作品が、佳作『夕日の丘に』である。
変に背伸びしているわけでもなく、遣われている語句も至って平凡である。しかしこの作品には、「生と死」というひとつのテーマに対峙して、書きながら追求していくといった、いわば“ひたすら”な、急いた感じがない。テーマをしたたかに見つめ、考えを熟成させた上で丹念に書いていった、という印象がある。この作品の著者である竹生さんは、作家的視線というものが既に老成しているのかもしれない。
しかしそれでもまだ、書いていくのだろうと思わせるものがある。この矛盾はいったいなんなのだろうか。
かつて作家の辻仁成氏が、ある若手女性作家を評した時に「作家は、持っているか、持っていないかで決まる」と語ったのを思い出した。竹生さんもまた、その何かを「持っている」人なのだと確信させられた次第である。

創作の悦びと苦しみを、こんなにも新鮮に伝えてもらったことが、本書に掲載されている作品に出会えた幸せである。本書に集まった、すべての小さな作家たちに感謝したい。

　今時の小学生の書いた文学ということで読んでみましたが、正直暗い内容が多いのが気がかりでした。これは選出する大人の責任でもあると感じるのですが、こじんまりとまとまったものばかりではなく、画用紙からはみ出るほどの勢いある作品も読んで見たかったので、期待はずれの感じもしました。
