イイ！！短編を収録した一冊。
殺人に至るまでのプロセスが、人間的で黒くて素敵だ。
子供のときに読んだとしても、この小説の根底は分からなかったはず。
トリックを見破るとか、そういう類の構成ではない。
事件に至る過程の人間の心を描写した物語なので
“大人”向けの作品に仕上がっている。

人を愛したことがない人にはこの作品の良さは分からないと思う。
これは主に男女の愛（不倫が多い）をモチーフにした短編集だ。
読んでいて、愛情の微妙な掛け違えが生む不幸に
「それはあり得ることだよね」と同意できるのなら、
この物語において手を下した人物たちを批判することはできないと思う。

収録作品では『遭難』が一番好きだ。
何が起こるのだろうかと、わずかなページのなかでドキドキさせられる。
江田槙田の心理的駆け引きが見事。

次点が『坂道の家』。
キャバクラや風俗がアングラ商売として大きなマネーを握っているのは、
この作品当時（昭和３５年）から変わっていなかったのだろうか。
この文化は続くのだろうか。この寺島のような男がいる限り。

殺意のきっかけは、日常の中にある。

　真相にじわじわと近づいてくる推理の足音に戦慄する犯人。身の破滅と分かっていながら、何かに魅入られたように人生を転げ落ちてゆく男。など、登場人物の心の動きをつぶさに追い、心のうちを鋭くえぐり出して行く清張サスペンスの醍醐味が堪能できる中・短篇集。昭和33年（1958年）から34年にかけて書かれた作品が収められています。
　「遭難」「証言」「天城越え」「寒流」「凶器」「紐」「坂道の家」の七篇。ロアルド・ダールの短篇を彷彿させる「凶器」も面白かったけれど、最初と最後の二品が格別、スリリングな読みごたえがありましたね。鹿島槍（かしまやり）遭難の表面上の事実の裏側にある真実が、次第にあぶり出されてくる「遭難」。若い女に溺れて、人生の坂道を一気に転落していく男を描いた「坂道の家」。これぞ清張！とでもいう迫力とサスペンスに満ちていましたね。
　本作品集のマイ・ベストは、「遭難」。遭難の出来事の裏に秘められていた真の意味が、徐々に浮かび上がってくる緊張感に、たまらないサスペンスの妙味を感じました。読み進むうちに、ぐいぐいと引き込まれていった中篇（文庫で130頁）。山岳ミステリーの名品ではないでしょうか。

「黒い画集」シリーズは週刊朝日に連載されましたが、一篇の紙数や連載期間に制約がなく、松本清張が自由に執筆できたという有名なエピソードがあります。
その結果、この作品集は松本清張の推理短篇集として最高の作品集になりました。有名な名作「天城越え」も収録されています。とりあえずこの巨匠の真髄に触れたい方にお薦め致します。決して損はしないでしょう。
