手に取っても馴染む、鞄に忍ばせておいても場所を取りません。薄めで、ハードカバーの本よりひと回り小さな一冊。

カフェでゆっくりとした時を過ごしたい時間のお供に、または電車に揺られて山方面に出掛けるのに、田舎に帰るお供に、散歩に、喧騒の中でもちょっぴり自然に触れたい時に・・・等々。

手軽に持ち歩ける一冊であり、小さな癒しでもあります。

串孫さんの晩年の随筆でもあると伺いました。装丁、表紙も可愛いですし。また串孫さんの優しい文章、そして美しい野鳥と花の写真とマッチしている文章に驚き、喜び。

その辺りに居そうな、または既にこの辺りからは遠の昔に居なくなってしまった野鳥の素朴ながらの美しさ、家の庭先、街角に植わっている木々の花、緑の美しさを改めて知りました。

子供の頃、宝石箱とか宝物箱って、今から思えばなんて事ないものを大事に仕舞っていませんでしたか？その辺りを飛んでいそうな鳥、良く見る木などが、自然の恵、失われつつある光景は、本当に地味で普段注目すらしないものでしょうけれども、これは自分の宝物にしたくなるような一冊です。ボロボロになっても、黄ばんでしまっても、端が折れてしまったとしても、小慣れた状態になったとしても、愛しみたい一冊です。

久々に素晴らしい本に出逢いました。串田さんの本は何冊か書棚にあるのですが真剣に読んでいませんでした。
串田さんの心の底から温まる文章と叶内さんの鳥と自然、植物の写真が見開きページの右と左に置かれています。
都会育ちで自然と語り合える人は殆どいない現在。
自然と共に生き、そして鳥と会話が出来る人。翼を持たない人であることを素直に、そして感じるがままにテキストに出来てしまう。
さらに晩年近くの文章であることからか、人生への想いも語られています。最後に奥様との写真と奥様の語りが置かれています。苦労もあった様ですが素晴らしい人生だったことを書かれています。

串田孫一　2005年7月8日没　89歳

大好きな串田さんの人柄さながらの、美しく優しい本です。透明な空気がはりつめた、緊張感がある、それでいて、芯から安らぐ温かい空気が、読んでいる私を包んでいるように感じました。文章と写真がぴったりあった、これは私へのなによりも贈り物です。
