この物語を読み終えた後はいつも、授業中、仕事中にも関わらず、
様々なシーンがフラッシュバックしてきて、終盤部分のあまりの
哀しさに社会復帰が困難になってしまう位、つらくなる。

一言でいえば、（無論、一言で語り尽くす事などできる訳も無いのは
承知の上ですが）ジルベールという妖しく危うい少年と、清廉潔白

としたセルジュとの、フランスの寄宿寮を舞台とした、悲恋と成長の
物語です。

悲恋と書きましたが、二人の友情の物語としてとらえる方がむしろ、
適切なのではないかと感じる事もあります。
それは、一線を超えた友情のかたちですが、ホモセクシュアルという
形で表現されるからこそ、その愛の純真さと真摯さがより強く伝わって

来るのではないかと思います。

近頃、ホモセクシュアルを扱ったコミックでは、キャラクターを
「男女」に置き換えても成り立つような作品も多く見かけますが、
それらに慣れきってしまった方には原点として、そうでない方には
数多あるマンガ作品の（色褪せない）古典の一つとして、是非一度、
読破することをおすすめします。

少なくとも３日は後をひきます。
頭が痛くなるほど、泣いて下さい。

最近ようやく全部読むことが出来た。
いつもクライマックスで涙があふれ、読むどころじゃなくなるのでずっと読めずにいた。読み終えるのが怖かった。

この物語はセルジュとジルベールの愛物語である。つまりは少年愛。当時の漫画界では異色とされた（らしい）漫画は現代だと皆さんも受け入れられるのではないだろうか。ジルベールの心の変化が見物だ。最初と最後の印象がだいぶ違う。愛がなければ生きていけない少年、とてもワガママで、自分のために苦労をしているセルジュに「離れないで」と言う。離れたくない、離れないでと心から願って結末はあんなことになってしまった。

どうしても先に進めなかったページはあの悲劇のページだ。今までのジルベールの成長をずっと見てきてそれがこのページを読んだ瞬間、走馬灯のように流れてきて涙が止まらなくなってしまう。今思い出しても泣きそうだ。

竹宮さんが伝えたかったこと、ジルベールとセルジュの切ない思いがひしひしと伝わってくる。話がとてもしっかりしているからとても読みやすい。さすが竹宮さんだと思った。

今まで読んだ作品の中で一番衝撃的だった。キャラに思いをいれすぎてクライマックを読み終えたあと一日寝込むなんて、今までなかった。それくらいすごい作品だ。是非心からオススメしたい。

不朽の名作だと、ずっと思っておりますが、
最近になって、この続編があることを知りました。

イラスト集「海の天使」に書き下ろされた短編です。
セルジュ達のその後を知ることが出来ます。

入手困難かも知れませんが、おすすめですよ。
