   70年代後半から80年代前半にかけてのミュージックシーンで、イギリスから起こったムーブメントを、NWOBHM（ニュー・ウェーブ・オブ・ブリティッシュ・ヘヴィ・メタル）と呼ぶ。その代表格とされるアイアン・メイデンの4枚目。
   中期の作品群に見られる、壮大なスケールで1曲が延々と続くタイプのアルバムではないが、3分台の曲でもきめ細かくメロディが展開するところは彼ららしい。シングルカットされた<3>は展開が明確で聴きやすいサウンドであり、ヘヴィメタル初心者でも抵抗ないだろう。（富良仁 枝実）

　ヴォーカルがディッキンソンに変わってからの2枚目、通算4枚目のアルバムです。今作はスピードでガンガン攻めてくるような感じではなく、じっくりと聴かせてくれる曲で殆んどを占めています。
　どの曲もメイデンらしさを少しも損なうことなく、かなり完成度の高いアルバムであると断言できるでしょう。
　あえてお勧め曲を挙げるとすれば、『Where Eagles Dare』『Flight of Icarus』『Sun And Steel』あたりでしょうか…　。
　正に勢いの中で生まれた名盤ですね。

ブルース・ディッキンソン(Vo)の加入により音楽性が比較にならないほど豊かになったIRON MAIDEN。
本作は'83年にリリースされた4thアルバムだ。
本作よりDrが元TRUSTのニコ・マクブレインに交代している。

サウンドの基本路線は前作と変わっていないが、このアルバムではアメリカのシーンに色目を使いつつもらしさを全く
失わないIRON MAIDENの本質というものが露になっている。
コンパクトでキャッチーな"Flight Of Icarus"はアルバムに収録するか否かでもめたといわれているが、
ドラマティックなメロディが感動を呼ぶ名曲。
"The Trooper"のようにライヴで欠かせない曲や、"Die With Your Boots On"のようにクールな疾走曲も
収録されているのでIRON MAIDENに少しでも興味のある人はBuy Or Die。

ちなみにこのアルバムは狙い通りアメリカでも大成功したが、日本での評価はなぜか良くなかった。
次の｢POWERSLAVE｣よりよっぽど凄いアルバムなのに。

5.0 out of 5 stars 王者アイアン・メイデンの黄金期ラインナップの1作目, 2003/7/28
メタリカが出てくるまでは、人気・実力共に80年代へヴィー・メタル界の王者として君臨してきたアイアン・メイデンの４作目。
　個人的には彼等のスタジオアルバムでの最高傑作は次作「パワースレイブ」、全てのアルバムの中ではライブアルバムの「死霊復活」だと今でも思っておりますが、なかなかどうしてこの作品も捨てたもんではありません。

　1~5まで全て名曲。8もいいです。まさにこれからバンドの絶頂期を迎えようという勢いのある作品に仕上がっていると思います。
　当時、アルバムのジャケットの雰囲気が気に入らず（ファンの間ではこれも一つの魅力になっているようですが・・・）、彼等のアルバムを聴くのを避けていた頃を思い出します。
