   ときは60年代後半、四国は香川の観音寺町が舞台だ。ベンチャーズの『パイプライン』に天啓を受けた高校生の「僕」（林泰文）が、仲間とロックバンドを結成し、情熱を燃やし続ける姿をほのぼのと、そしてノスタルジックに描いた青春映画の快作である。
   原作は第105回直木賞を受賞した、芦原すなおの同名小説だ。男の子の繊細な純情を軽やかに描く手腕は、大林宣彦監督作品ならではの味わいである。また、彼にはめずらしく特定のマドンナを設けずにドラマが進められるが、それでも大林映画の常連である柴山智加などの女の子が登場すると、にわかに画面が華やぐのがおもしろい。
   お寺の息子でバンドのメンバーの1人を好演した大森嘉之が、その年の新人賞を総なめした。また、浅野忠信がバンドのメンバーの一員として出演している。（的田也寸志）

夏休みにアルバイトをして楽器を手に入れる、、、
山奥で合宿して（？）、
昼間は岩のゴロゴロした河原で、
夜も焚火の灯りの中で、と　文字通り練習に明け暮れる、、、
仲間の片想いにも、みんなで世話焼いちゃったりして。
本番の文化祭当日は、彼らを支えてくれた周りの大人たちも駆けつけます。

一番切ないなぁと思うシーンは、

彼らがそれぞれの進路に向かって、
やはり分かれ行かなければならない、
あの「夜明け前」。
何度見てもうる目になってしまいます。

私がもし昔の人ならば、「実に以って有難きは青春」と感謝の気持ちを表したに違いない。です。

ベンチャーズ、ビートルズの曲は、知ってることは知ってる。でも、その時代には生きてない（または対象の年代じゃない）。そんなワタシには楽しめない「懐メロ映画」かと思ってたら、違った。

部活動とか勉強とか、とにかく何かが大好きで、それに打ち込んで、めちゃくちゃ燃焼した子ほど、その後どうしていいかわかんなくて、一瞬、ぽっかりと穴があいちゃうようなことってあるでしょう。

これは、何かに執着したり打ち込んだりした経験のある人なら、誰でも楽しめます。つまり、殆どの人が「あるある~（笑）」と思える、いまでも充分楽しめる作品だと思いました。

ところで、観音寺にはまだマクドナルドがないのでしょうか？ちょっと気になる(笑)。。

私の中で生涯ベスト５の映画の中に入ります。どこが素晴らしいとかは言えません。とにかく見てください！全部が最高なんです！

青春時代のキラキラしていたあの頃。仲間達との友情、学生生活、好きな事にのめり込んでた日々、何もかもが美しい時間。そんな抱きしめたくなる様な懐かしい日々を見事に映像化した作品！観音寺の背景や方言もよりこの作品を際立たせてます。見ないと損しますよ！！！
