個人的には気に入った作品で、読み進めていくと、現実と非現実が入り混じって、何を信じればいいのか分からなくなります。
アラ探しをせずに、うまく流れにのっていけば、十分に楽しめます。
よく言うところの「ディック的」要素が好きならば、読んでもいいと思います。
ただし、普通の人に受けるかといえば、受けない気がしますので、単純な娯楽作品を求める方には、お勧めできません。

英国幻想文学賞を受賞しているが、基本的にはリアリズムの小説。妻を亡くした（まだ若い）教師が、エルサレムを訪れていろいろと不思議な目にあうという話である。

ストーリーは、恋愛と、昨今流行の聖書考古学と、これまた昨今流行のトラウマ快癒の話をブレンドしたような感じ。語り口が上手くて、とても気持ちよく読める。読後感もいい。
