旅といえばバイク。そんな52歳が青春18きっぷを買うまでになってしまったのはこの漫画のおかげ（この漫画のせいか？）。
社会人にならないまま鉄道に乗り続け、ついに前人未到の国内全駅下車を達成した横見浩彦氏は、社会的にはまったく無名な人（バイクレースで世界GPを走った加藤大二郎みたいな？一般の人に言わせれば、それ誰？という存在か）ですが、この漫画で一躍メジャー（それでもこの漫画を見た人だけだろうなあ）になりましたねー。そばにこんな人がいたらいやだなあ、と思う反面、ここまで一途に突っ走るなんてうらやましいなあとも思います。そんな人の存在を世に知らしめたこの漫画は、鉄道文化にとって貴重な存在だと思います。

連載終了後に起きた怒涛のイベントラッシュを描いた番外編みたいなものでしょうか？
新潮社との相互乗り入れ企画によるコラボ漫画・鉄ドラマへの便乗同行取材・ドラマ取材しといて自分トコのアニメ化をほったらかしといちゃマズイだろう（笑）とアニメ取材、それに伴う各イベント取材・と続き最後に銚子電鉄応援企画へと流れます。いやーご苦労様でした。
横見さんの印象が、メジャー化したせいかだいぶ大人しく（普通に）見えるようになったのは
自分に鉄分が蓄積されてしまったせいでしょうか？そうであって欲しくないと思いますが。
笑う方はアニメ化当事の製作側の苦労を綴った「プラス第四旅、アニメ製作地獄〜スタッフが語るアニメ『鉄子』の裏側」の製作設定さんのテンパリ方が一押しですね。最後のシーンで、カミムラさんから顛末の説明を原作者本人のキクチさんの「はたから見てるのが楽しいんだね『鉄子』って」とバッサリ切って捨てるところは苦労した本人の言うことですから「重い言葉だなぁ」と爆笑してしまいました。

　銚子電鉄応援企画
が掲載された本です。

　連載終了後「鉄子」のアニメ化や鉄道会社の企画で描かれたマンガや文章を集めた一冊。
　主に菊池さんの語りで描かれているので、表紙も菊池さんの戸惑い気味の表情のアップです。

アニメ化の苦労話を聞いて
「今の話聞いててやっと実感できたっスよ。
はたから見てるのがおもしろんだね、『鉄子』って。」
と語る菊池さんには笑ってしまいました。

いつもは横見さんにふりまわされてアタフタする菊池さんとカミムラさんですが
この本では、アニメ化でふりまわされているみなさんの様子が描かれています。

「最終回も終わったしもう新刊はでないんだな」と残念だった私に
嬉しい「プラス」でした。
