山内容堂、伊達宗城、島津久光、鍋島閑叟の話から成る、短編４話。
４人ともかなり個性的で面白かったけど
今まで読んだ司馬さんの小説と比べると、少し読みにくい部類でした。
歴史小説は、長編の方が面白いかも！
短編だと、小説というより、解説みたいになっちゃって。

いつもお酒を飲みながら、詩を詠み、本を読み、そしてバカ力で面食い（笑）

自分に酔ってるナルシストな容堂が、なんか好きです。
「酔って候」ていうタイトルもなんか気に入ってしまった。
気に入った容堂の詩の一部、
「酒有り、飲むべし、我酔うべし」（笑）

伊達宗城は、容堂と同じく四賢候と呼ばれた１人で、
自分の藩で日本初の蒸気船を作ろうと思い立ちます。

久光のお殿様も面白かったです。

でも、本当はいい人で可哀相な人かもしれない。
彼も母親の、お由良騒動の被害者かもしれない。

閑叟という人の名は、初めて聞きました。
薩摩と同じような、二重鎖国の藩があったことも初耳。
乱世にもかかわらず、何からも煽られず
たった１人で、自分の理想通り藩を支配して行く閑叟。
幕末の肥後って、乱世のなか、孤立してて静かな印象だけど

閑叟という人がいたから、まとまれたんですね。

幕末の短編集で、以下の小説で構成されています。
◆「酔って候」（土佐藩 山内容堂）
◆「きつね馬」（薩摩藩 島津久光）
◆「伊達の黒船」（伊予宇和島藩 伊達宗城）
◆「肥前の妖怪」（肥前藩 鍋島閑臾）

「この時代、藩主たちも大変だったのね。」というのが正直な感想です。
越前候 松平春嶽が含まれていないことが、不思議に思いました。

色々な事情を抱えていても、やはり「藩」というものを守らなければならないのが、藩主の仕事。
たしかに、この賢候たちにはある意味で「アッパレ」です。
この時代の「藩主」を描いた小説として、すっごくおもしろかったです。

個人的な好みの順番でいえば、
1. 伊達宗城→2. 鍋島閑臾→3. 山内容堂→4. 島津久光
の順でしょうか。

実はこの本、かなり気に入ってます・・・・・

　出てくる四藩すべてにそれぞれ異なった魅力があり、おもしろい。佐賀藩とか宇和島藩はほとんど予備知識が無かったのに、十分に楽しめた。
　自分の性格的には、佐賀の鍋島閑叟があっている。先を見越してこつこつ倹約。いつの間にか国力が上がり、他藩も一目おく存在に。でも最後は主役になれず、主役を引き立てる役に回る。僕もこんな感じ。
　一方あこがれるのは、土佐の山内容堂。こけにされようが、自分と自分の信念を貫く。こういう姿は人の胸を打つもの。
