「週刊誌なんてただの問題児」としか思っていないような人こそ、まさに読むべき。

週刊誌がなくなってしまうとどうなってしまうのか。

これは本書を読めばわかる通り、私たちの知る権利がどんどん狭まっていく結果になるのです。

普段週刊誌を読まない方、必ずこれまでとは違う視点が得られるでしょう。

ジャーナリズムというと新聞やテレビを考えがちだが、週刊誌などの雑誌も立派な（高尚なという意味ではなく一翼を担っているという意味で）ジャーナリズムであることを再認識した。
週刊誌というと、政治や芸能に限らずスキャンダルや興味本位な記事、ヌードと下ネタが連想されるが、「書かない新聞、書けないテレビ」で報道されない隠れた真実を公表するという重要な役割を担い「国民の知る権利」に応えてきた。客観報道主義という名目で記者クラブに依存してお上から提供される情報のみを横並びで伝達するだけの新聞、広告スポンサーの顔色をうかがい踏み込んだ報道ができないテレビという実態がある以上、その穴を埋める週刊誌ジャーナリズムは必要である。「たかが週刊誌、されど週刊誌」という開き直りと、「タブーに挑み疑惑に踏み込む」という報道姿勢によって、現に重要な役割を果たしてきたということだ。
本誌の中でも、いろいろな雑誌名が出てくるが、自分自身、学生時代は「平凡パンチ」か「週刊プレイボーイ」、その後「週刊ポスト」か「週刊現代」、最近は「週刊文春」が「週刊新潮」というように年代によって読む雑誌が変わってきている。趣味や職業によっても読みたい雑誌は変わってくると思われるため、多くの雑誌が存在する理由は分からなくもないが、正直なところ数が多すぎて過当競争になっているような気はする。休刊は残念だが、継続している雑誌には頑張って欲しい。
