5.0 out of 5 stars 絵のサイズが違うと感動が違います！, 2008/3/13
　この一冊に入っている短編はすべて持っているので、この本が出たとき買おうか買うまいかものすごく悩みました（スペースの関係で）　でも買ってよかったです。何といってもまんがは絵だから、サイズが大きくなると感動が違うんですよね。どれ一つとっても筋金入りの傑作ばかり！　それをこのサイズで読めるのがほんとに嬉しい!!　「もう持っているから」とは思わないで下さい。特に文庫はまんがじゃありません。まんがというのは、絵とストーリーが挨待つ総合芸術です。お話の筋が分かればいいというものではありません。まして萩尾さんの作品は中身が深いんだから。そういう意味で、このサイズで出版してくれた小学館に感謝します。

私は本書収載作品では日本的情緒を描いた『小夜の縫うゆかた』が最も好きで、作者もまた『プチコミック』７７年創刊号で、『１１月のギムナジウム』、『塔のある家』（いずれも本書には未収載）と並んで、小夜という姉の名前を主人公に借りたこの作品を、一番好きな作品に挙げています。

その扉絵で詠まれている「なすの花青い　なすの実青い　赤と白とだんだらの　白粉花が咲きかおる　やつでのかげに　まだユキノシタの白い花」の詩は、その色彩の対比が北原白秋の初期の作品を髣髴とさせます。（たとえば『思ひ出』所収の『黒い小猫』や『青いとんぼ』等。小夜のゆかたが「赤とんぼ」なのは、あるいは『青いとんぼ』を意識したのかも？）

作者が白秋について語ったものについては記憶にありませんが、白秋の郷里・福岡県柳川市（柳河）は作者の父親の郷里であり、また間にみやま市を挟んで作者の郷里・大牟田市の北側に位置することから、作者の創作活動に決して無縁ではなかっただろうと、そしてこの作品の中に描かれている盆踊りや父親が迎え火を焚く姿などは、作者が幼かった頃の郷里の情景を描いたものではないかと思います。

なお、この作品は主人公の小夜がゆかたを縫いながら亡き母親の思い出をたどる話ですが、『ｉｍａｇｏ』９５年４月号での作者と巖谷國士の対談では、この作品に関して次のような会話があります。
「最初１６頁のストーリーをつくったときにはお母さんが生きていたんですよ。描いている途中にきて、興に乗って急に殺してしまった。」
「萩尾さんのマンガって、お母さんはみんな死んじゃう。あるいはいない。」
「お母さんが初めから死んでいるわけだから、母親との闘いはあまり表面に出ない。」

それが８０年代に入り、「あの頃（『訪問者』の頃）は本当に落ち込んじゃって、私はまた作品を描けるのかしら、こんなに親と大喧嘩して、というぐらいガックリきてたんですね。」、「『メッシュ』ですね。ここでやっと私は親と対決する話を描くハメになるんですね。」と語られていて、そのため『半神』等、８０年代の作品には重苦しい空気が漂うように感じます。

それと、本書に収載されている作品には、その年代・ジャンル・テーマのいずれにおいても統一性・一貫性のかけらもありません。本当にこの編集担当者は何を基準に本書をまとめたのか、甚だ疑問です。
