　同じシリーズで以前、英語で日本料理というものがあったが、今回は家庭料理という事に焦点を絞っている。もともと日本に関係する事を英語で紹介したい人のためのシリーズであるので、料理本の続編は望まれていたのであろうが、前作のように外国人への土産という購入目的は少々厳しいのではないだろうか。海外で日本食が市民権を得てきたとは言え、まだまだサシミやテンプラといった類の料理がほとんどであり、家庭料理まで楽しむケースは少ないのでは？
　とはいえ、日本語だけ読んでも楽しめるくらい精度の高い編集をしているので、英語の勉強がてら家庭料理のレシピを楽しむのがふさわしいと思う。日々口にしている惣菜を、英語でなんと言うかご存知ですか？

日本人にはわかりやすいし、面白い。
でも、外国の友達にプレゼントしたけど、なかなかうまく作れないらしい。
事実食してみたが、なにか違う。
やっぱり、日本食をあまり食べたことがない外国人（文化の違う人たち）が日本食を作ることは困難なのだなァとバックボーンの重要性を思い知った。
でもチャレンジしないと進歩しないので、きっかけとして☆４つ。

現地校では頻繁にある、ママが子ども達に自国料理を教える機会や持ち寄りパーティー。時にはレシピを添えなくてはならないのですが、この英訳がとても便利。
確かに、あまりに一般的なメニューなので、ほぼ自分の頭に入っている為、本書の作り方通りに料理した事は殆どありませんが、「何と言う言葉を使って説明すればいいのか？」という時に、辞書代わりにちょくちょく開きます。
また、鍋での米の炊き方なども記載されており、アジア以外の一般家庭の人に寿司の作り方を教えたときも役立ちました。
プレゼントとして渡しっぱなしでは、その方の本棚に眠ってしまうでしょうが、本書を利用して日本料理を理解してもらうには十分だと思います。
