若く美しい、前途ある女性が周囲の憎嫉によって自殺に追い込まれる。彼女は妖術を使う祖母の手によって蘇り、毛むくじゃらの吸血魔と化して復讐に赴くのだった。

主演は大女優・池内淳子。当時新東宝に所属していた池内は社長・大蔵貢の反対を押し切って結婚。それが破れて戻ってきた池内に用意された役が、この吸血魔の役だった……というのが定説ですが、嫌がらせをするんだったら最初から起用しないでしょう。ある意味、女優・池内淳子の覚悟のほどを感じさせる鬼気迫る作品で、テンポの良いストーリー展開と併せて、観て損のない作品です。
ちなみにこの作品、映画公開後に池内淳子によってフィルムが焼却されたとの噂が広がりました。それぐらい長い間、まともに観る機会がなかった作品なのです。

池内淳子が怪物まで演じさせられたというが、怪物の動きがどう見ても男の動作にみえるんだが・・・。それでも池内淳子にとっては屈辱の作品。後にフィルムを買い取って葬り去ったらしいが、別のところにあったフィルムでＤＶＤ化。池内にとってはなんともイヤなことでありますが、わたしのようなゲテもの好きにはうれしい商品化。
ところで、こういうホラー映画を撮って、映画界を去った並木鏡太郎監督は鞍馬天狗の監督としての評価されるらしいが、そんな職人監督の撮った「樋口一葉」にはびっくり。貧乏にくるしみながら、人として恥ずかしくない生き方をする映画のなかの登場人物の振る舞いに一点の曇りがなく、性格の卑しいところがまったくない。貧乏生活のなかでお天道様の下をまともに歩けない行動をしてはいけないと普通なら説教臭いことになりそうだが、俳優たちの演技や並木監督の演出によって素直に伝わってくる。演技と演出が品の良い映画と「花嫁吸血魔」が同じ監督で作られたとはすごい。「樋口一葉」もＤＶＤ化されて欲しいものだ。
